The world is continuously changing. Developments are always being made to make cities a better place. This is what is happening right now in the city of Fishers. Fishers has always been a place where people could live and work, however not always a place of amusement. Fishers has been trying to change this idea with the installment of places such as TopGolf, Portillos, and IKEA. However, the leaders of Fishers have decided to take this new stage of development further. In the fi rst few months of 2020, Mayor Scott Fadness has been hard at work, making this the year of action. “This year is the year of execution,” Mayor Fadness said. “There is a lot of building that is going to be happening.” Developments currently happening in the Fishers community include numerous roads such as State Road 37 and 96th Street being built, the Nickel Plate Trail, the Yard and the buying of more real estate. These developments are why Mayor Fadness believes this is the year of action. Another development that Fadness thinks will be very interesting is the Geist Waterfront Park project. This enables anyone, no matter the income, to have access to Geist Reservoir. Before this new development, residents had to have a certain income level to be able to step foot into the lake. Although numerous projects will be happening in the Fishers community, Mayor Fadness and his council are hard at work to make sure that these new changes will not have a negative impact on Fishers residents. “We want residents to be able to have this brand new and dynamic city being built,” Mayor Fadness said. “But at the same time they are not delayed 25 minutes on their way to work”. As new projects are introduced, the public has voiced their opinions about the new developments that are happening. One project in particular that received numerous opinions is the Nickel Plate Trail. This project is the conversion of the famous Nickel Plate Railway into a trail that can be used by all. However, this project was seen as controversial due to the sentimental value that the Nickel Plate Railway held to many of the residents of Fishers. The Nickel Plate Railway has been around since 1887 and although it had not been used for a while due to technological and maintenance issues, many people could not bare to part with the historical railway. Although the feedback was not all positive for these new projects, Fadness continued to pursue these new developments because he believed they were important. “If you believe in it, then all of that noise, and people calling you names, and all that stu goes away,” Fadness said. “And we

keep moving forward”. Feedback has not all been negative. HSE Junior and member of the Mayor’s Youth Academy, Jacob Weber, understands the that building the community of Fishers will help make the city better.
