HAWAII BAPTIST FOUNDATION

Serving Christian Stewards Paul Oyer, Interim President Annual Report 2020

The most significant happening at the Foundation this year was the passing of our President, Arnold Goto, due to complications from a heart valve transplant last December. When Mr. Goto graduated to heaven in early August, the Board of Directors of the Foundation prevailed on me to serve as Interim President while they searched for a new President. I had preceded Arnold in that role.

The Foundation was blessed by Arnold and his leadership. He served as President for almost five years, and prior to that as a director and chair of the Board’s Development Committee for eight years.

The Foundation will continue to pursue its purpose, to help Christian stewards achieve their charitable intents, in reliable, efficient, tax advantaged, and confidential ways; and to grow assets for the Lord’s work.

The Foundation is available to share ways of giving to Christian causes out of one’s accumulated assets. There are ways to give which increase current income, obtain guaranteed income, minimize taxes, and give more than you may have ever thought possible.

And we encourage good estate planning. One of the things the Foundation does in this area is to make available to Hawaii Pacific Baptists the tools and help to prepare a will, without any cost to the preparer. In the short two years of will preparation assistance being offered at no cost, Hawaii Pacific Baptists have prepared over 15 wills that we estimate will someday result in over $2,000,000 given to the Lord’s work.

This year we expect to receive over $1,000,000 for the Lord’s work from someone who made their will eight years ago. Christian stewards are responding and the Kingdom is benefiting. Praise the Lord! We believe that preparing an estate plan can be the most significant act of financial stewardship a Christian makes.

Because we must maintain expertise in safeguarding, investing, and distributing money that Christian stewards have entrusted to us as endowments, designed to support designated causes until the Lord’s return, we make those services available to HPBC churches and institutions.

Today the Foundation oversees the investments of $30,000,000 for endowment funds, and for HPBC churches and institutions. And I’m happy to report that the earnings on those investments have kept up with the major market indexes, even after fees; something that most prudent investment options fall short of.

We invite all Hawaii Pacific Baptists to use your Foundation to help you give and grow assets for Kingdom causes. We’d love to be of service to you and your church.
