Memorial means to “remember” and every year on the last Monday in May, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice with their Dr. Billy Holland lives in the line of active military service while protecting and defending the country they loved. For those of you that have family members and close friends who died fighting for our freedoms, we can know they perished for a cause greater than their own. What do you think about when you hear the words Memorial Day and does it have personal significance? Unfortunately, for some Americans, the true meaning of Memorial Day has been seemingly lost. It’s common for people to be glad for another federal holiday and a three-day weekend. Some recognize the occasion as the beginning of summer and celebrate with a cookout. Then there are the parents, spouses, siblings, and children who will touch their loved one’s name on a military memorial wall, and place flowers on their grave. My mother’s youngest brother Clinton was 19years-old when he was killed on a battlefield in Korea. Clinton (who was nicknamed Kenny), and his cousin Thomas both went into the army together and had dreams of a happy life after the war, but neither one returned. Memorial Day is often confused with Veterans Day or even Armed Forces Day, and though it’s highly appropriate to honor all our veterans, living and dead, and to recognize their immeasurable contributions to our country, this is not the true meaning of Memorial Day. So, why do so many Americans feel uncomfortable and refuse to acknowledge our fallen patriots? We realize our human nature tends to avoid the unpleasant, and this is natural, nonetheless, these individuals deserve our respect and honor. The tradition of the Memorial Day celebration began on May 30, 1868, as an initiative by Major General John A. Logan. The event was held with a large gathering of people decorating the graves of thousands of military personnel. After speeches by officials, children from an orphanage made their way through the cemetery, singing hymns. New York was the first state to declare Memorial Day as an official holiday, followed by other states. The southern province observed it separately until the completion of World War I, after which the Memorial Day celebration included all the Americans who sacrificed their lives in any war. Official guidelines say the flag in all administrative buildings should be displayed at half-staff. In 2000, President Bill Clinton implemented 'The National Moment of Remembrance Act' to encourage all Americans to voluntarily stop wherever they are at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day for a moment of silence to honor those who have died in service to the nation.
I want to share this true account about private George Watson, a member of the Army’s 29th Quartermaster Regiment who hailed from Birmingham, Alabama. On March 8, 1943, he was far from home in the Pacific theater. His unit was on board the Dutch steamer USAT Jacob near Porloch Harbor, New Guinea, when it came under a sudden and devastating attack from Japanese bomber planes. The cargo ship was destroyed after sustaining several direct hits and had to be abandoned. Chances of survival seemed slim to the frightened men floating helplessly in the ocean as enemy fire continued to rain down on them. At that moment, Watson demonstrated bravery worthy of the most heroic warrior. Without thought for his own safety or survival, he dived into the water and started swimming to those who were drowning, pulling his injured and helpless comrades to the few available life rafts. No one is certain how many men he saved, but according to eyewitnesses, it is certain that in his relentless efforts, many men lived because of his fearless courage. George continued until finally becoming so fatigued he did not have the strength to avoid the powerful suction when the ship began to sink. Watson, along with four other valiant sailors, disappeared beneath the waves. For extraordinary heroism on the front lines of combat, Watson became the first black American soldier to receive the Distinguished Service Cross. His love for others and demonstration of selflessness were even further recognized when he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor during a 1997 ceremony. Because Watson had no family members to claim his medals, citations, honors, and other awards, they are proudly displayed by the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum at Fort Lee, Virginia. George Watson field at Fort Benning, and The United States Navy ship, USNS Watson, is named after him.

Regardless of Sussmann verdict, trial shows feds' Alfa Bank probe was rooted in falsehoods, secrecy

By Natalia Mittelstadt
Regardless of the verdict in the trial of Michael Sussmann, one constant has emerged: the FBI investigation of TrumpRussia collusion that Sussmann set in motion was rife with secrecy and falsehood.
Special Counsel John Durham charged the former Clinton campaign lawyer last year with making a false statement to the FBI when he allegedly told then-FBI General Counsel James Baker that he was not representing any client in relaying since-debunked allegations about a secret communications channel between Russia's Alfa Bank and the Trump Organization.
Durham's team believes it has presented evidence that proves Sussmann was in fact working on behalf of two clients at the time —the Clinton campaign and tech firm executive Rodney Joffe.
Sussmann has pled not guilty, but if convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
Examples of falsehoods and concealment that have emerged in the court record over the course of the Sussmann trial include:
*Sussmann allegedly told Baker he was not representing any clients when bringing the Alfa Bank allegation. However, billing records show that Sussmann billed the Clinton campaign for what appeared to be various items related to the Alfa Bank narrative around the time he was pushing it to the FBI, such as calls and meetings with fellow Perkins Coie law partner Marc Elias and Joffe, calls with and regarding the media, work on white papers, and the purchase of thumb drives. the bureau at the time, allegedly gave the FBI the data about the allegation both through Sussmann and then-FBI agent Tom Grasso. Grasso, who had previously worked with Joffe on FBI investigations and considered him a friend, then passed the additional data along to the Chicago team that was investigating, bypassing Joffe's FBI handler.
*Baker has shown some inconsistency on the central question at issue in the trial —whether Sussmann was transparent with him about whether he was acting on behalf of a client. The defense noted in crossexamination that, in Baker's interview with the DOJ Office of the Inspector General, he said Sussmann had met with him on behalf of clients who were cybersecurity experts. Baker, however, explained that his statement to the OIG was "inaccurate," "imprecise," and a "mistake," but not a lie, as he was just summarizing what he said was already in transcripts from his testimony to Congress in October 2018.
*Baker did not disclose the source of the data underlying the Alfa Bank narrative to the FBI agents collecting it from him. One of those agents was FBI agent Scott Hellman, who found it frustrating that he wasn't told the identity of the source to aid in his analysis of the data.
*FBI agent Ryan Gaynor shielded the identity of the source behind the Alfa Bank story from the FBI Chicago Division team tasked with investigating it, claiming that FBI leadership had placed a "close-hold" on Sussmann's identity. Gaynor, however, did not initially tell the special counsel of the close-hold, prompting prosecutors to change his status in their investigation from a witness to a target. Gaynor later claimed that after reviewing his notes, he realized there was a close -hold and told the special counsel team, which changed his status back to a witness.
*FBI agent Curtis Heide, who is under investigation by the special counsel, testified that a "mistake" was made in citing a DOJ referral as the source of the Alfa Bank allegations in the document formally opening the FBI investigation of the claims. However, former FBI agent Allison Sands —a trainee under Heide at the time he assigned her to work on the investigation —said that she was informed the information came from a DOJ referral and only later found out it was from Baker, before eventually learning that an anonymous third party gave Baker the information. The document closing the FBI investigation into Alfa Bank says the underlying (or pretextual) data in the case came from a DOJ referral. Heide testified that it must have been mistakenly copied and pasted into the document.
*Both Elias, the 2016 Clinton campaign's top lawyer, and 2016 Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook claimed they would not have brought the Alfa Bank tale to the FBI because they didn't trust then-Director James Comey. However, the Clinton campaign trusted the FBI enough to share the Steele dossier with the bureau, as George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley has pointed out.
*Mook denied that taking the allegation to the media, a decision approved by Hillary Clinton, was an "October surprise," labeling that a "myth," despite the resulting article being published on Oct. 31, 2016. He allowed that the campaign wasn't "totally confident" in the allegation, yet decided to feed it to a reporter so they could look into it and decide whether to publish it.
Trump declares Wyoming 'ultra' MAGA country, makes clear Cheney only part of larger RINO purge plan
Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is a perhaps the No. 1 elected Never Trump candidate seeking office this election cycle
ByJust the News staff
Former President Trump was greeted Saturday night with a sea of cheers at a massive rally in Wyoming, oneinwhichthe Republican politician teed up a major push against what he said were insufficiently conservative Republicans in Congress, including WyomingRep.LizCheney.
Trump also arrived in the city of Casper to rally GOP voters to back his candidate, lawyer Harriet Hageman, in trying to deny Cheney a fourth term –after she sided with Democrats to vote to impeach him over the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, then helped them lead a congressional investigation into the matter.
He also made clear that Cheney is neither the first nor last Republican he finds disloyal to the GOP and ready to be ousted from elected office.
“Over the next six months the people of Wyoming are going to vote to dump your RINO [Republican-in-NameOnly] congresswoman Liz Cheney," Trump told the cheering crowd, "and you’re going to send the incredible Harriet Hagemen to Congress."
Trump said Hagemen in Congress would help “end Crazy [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi’s political career once and for all," and would fight against "backstabbing RINO Republicans helping" Democrats in Washington.
The president riffed in his usual free-association style during the event, turning to subjects such as antifa, the January 6 commission and election integrity throughout the country. nobody has ever seen anything like it in this country," he said during his roughly one-hour speech. “Wyoming, all of America is counting on you.” After having become one of Trump's biggest political foes, Cheney has emerged this election cycle to become perhaps the GOP's biggest, albeit unofficial, "NeverTrump" candidate.
To be sure, Trump has never been coy about singling out his political rivals, with Cheney being no exception.
Even before she voted to impeach Trump, the former president singled out Cheney for her nonsupport of his foreign policy, calling her a "warmonger." The moniker also seemes to have come from her being the daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney of the Bush administration that invaded Iraq in March 2003.
The winner of the GOP primary for Cheney's House seat will likely keep it for the GOP, considering Wyoming is among the most conservative-leaning states in the country. (And Wyominghasonlyone House seat, so the holder represents the entire state.)
Cheney is mostly unpopular within the House Republican Conference and has been censure by the state Republican Party for her post-Jan. 6 actions. However, she appears to have some support among state voters, and she has a large campaign coffer.
Still, a new survey on her primary, commissioned by the conservative, antitax group Club for Growth, which is backing Hageman, shows Hageman with 56% of the vote, compared to (Continued on page 16)

Trump at the rally told the crowd that "it's time you finally had a representative who will put America first and who is looking to make America great again.” In response, the crowd began chanting "USA! USA!"
At the event, Trump also turned to familiar territory by riffing on the media, including journalists present to cover the rally. “You saw their ratings after the election,” he said during the rally. “Their ratings died."
"They want us back so badly, I actually thought they were going to endorse me," he said. Newly released documents from the U.S. government have shed light on how the White House might respond to potential doomsday scenarios if they were to come to fruition.
The documents, obtained by the Brennan Center for Justice through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and reported on by The New York Times, highlight a small portion of the directives that are so secret that Congress has not seen them.
The classified directives, which date back to the Cold War, invoke emergency and wartime powers. There appear to have been significant changes to the directives after the September 11, 2001, Islamic terrorist attacks on the U.S.
The report said that some of the new documents, which come from George W. Bush’s administration, indicate a focus on a government “take over or shut down [of] communications networks in wartime.” The Bush administration appears to have expanded the number of directives from 48 to 56.
The documents also indicate that the Justice Department in 2008 were revising a draft order due to a recent Supreme Court ruling, which the report suggests could be related to the Second Amendment or the rights of detainees.
The documents show that the number of categories that the directives focused on has expanded from one, which appears to have been a nuclear attack, to seven, which are classified.
Advertisements The report said that a lot of what is known about the directives comes from the Cold War-era versions of the documents because more of those documents have been declassified.
The New York Times reported:
For example, they included directives imposing versions of martial law, censoring information crossing the border and suspending court hearings for detained people. It is unclear whether the current set includes similar actions.
Other orders from that era included a declaration that a state of war existed, a directive to arrange for reconvening Congress at a secure site, and the creation of an agency empowered to impose sweeping controls over the economy. That agency, reporting to the president, could enact controls like requisitioning private property and allocating materials; imposing wage, price and rent controls; rationing; and settling labor disputes.

Joe Biden Again Falsely Claims Trump Supporters Killed Police Officers on January 6
By Charlie Spiering Breitbart
would you think? What would you think?
The president spoke about the January 6th protests during his commencement speech at the University of Delaware. He said: A mob of insurrectionists stormed the Capitol, the very citadel of democracy. Imagine what you’d be thinking today if you had heard this morning before you got here that a group of a thousand people broke down the doors of the parliament of Great Britain, killed two police officers, smashed and ransacked the office of members of the British Parliament or any other, what Biden has previously made the false claim about Trump supporters killing police officers. U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died a day after the attack, but his death was afterward determined to be from natural causes: two strokes at the base of his brain stem caused by a clot in an artery.
Four police officers, serving either the Capitol Police or the Washington Metropolitan Police force, died by suicide in the weeks following the attacks.
IRS squanders nearly $1B in erroneous pandemic credits, won't try to recoup: Treasury watchdog
Despite 6% budget increase, expected addition of 10,000 agents, IRS claims it can't spare resources to recover $600M in bungled payments.

By Mary Lou Lang JustTheNews
The Golden Horseshoe is a weekly designation from Just The News intended to highlight egregious examples of wasteful taxpayer spending by the government. The award is named for the horseshoe-shaped toilet seats for military airplanes that cost the Pentagon a whopping $640 each back in the 1980s.
This week's Golden Horseshoe is awarded to the IRS for issuing almost $1 billion in improper pandemic tax credits —and rebuffing an inspector general's recommendations to recover the erroneous payments.
The tax collectors issued potentially $898 million in improper Recovery Rebate Credits (RRCs) to ineligible individuals, including potential nonresident aliens, according to a final audit report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA).
The CARES Act authorized Economic Impact Payments in varying amounts depending on income and filing status. Any eligible individual who did not receive the stimulus payment could claim the missing amount on their tax return as an RRC on their taxes in 2020 and 2021.
"As of May 27, 2021, the IRS had processed 26.3 million tax returns with RRC claims totaling $39.2 billion," according to the TIGTA final audit report. "Of these, the IRS issued potentially improper RRC payments totaling $898 million. These include $79.8 million in the RRC that should have been paid to eligible individuals and $818.5 million in the RRC that was paid to ineligible individuals."
The IRS declined to review or take steps to recover approximately two -thirds of the erroneously disbursed amounts, the inspector general revealed.
"The IRS did not agree to review erroneous payments totaling nearly $598 million that were paid to ineligible individualsasofMay27,2021, " the IG said. "The IRS also did not agree to conduct analysis to identify and recover additional erroneous RRC payments issued after May 27, 2021."
The watchdog found potentially 355,015 individuals were erroneously issued the payments, which included "ineligible dependents, nonresidents, and individuals associated with a credit from a U.S. Territory."
There were 75,594 tax returns with RRCs for more than $125 million that the IRS issued to potentially nonresident aliens, the TIG found.
IRS programming, errors by examiners in their Error Resolution Department, and timing issues all contributed to the improper payments, according to the watchdog, which found that while the IRS did have a 99.3% accuracy rate, the 0.7% errors totaled nearly $898 million.
The IRS agreed with just eight of 22 of the inspector general's recommendations.
Rejecting a recommendation to recover improper claims processed after May 27, 2021, Commissioner of the Wage and Investment Division Kenneth Corbin wrote to Deputy IG Michael McKenney that reviewing those claims "would require us to divert limited resources where there is only a 0.7 percent projected error rate."
The IRS disputed the premise underlying the IG's recommendation to review the 75,594 potentially nonresident alien tax returns.
"We disagree with TIGTA's methodology to identify taxpayers who were potentially nonresident aliens," Corbin wrote. "The exemption from employer withholding of Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) taxes is not a proxy for an individual's status as a resident alien or nonresident alien."
The IG also recommended the IRS review the 14,508 cases in which RRCs were improperly issued when dependents were claimed on someone else's taxes and take steps to recover the erroneous payments. Rejecting the auditor's recommendation, Corbin defended the adequacy of existing IRS compliance checks and selective examination of ineligible claims within resource limitations.
Declining to review such ineligible claims processed after May 27, 2021, Corbin said the recovery effort "would require the IRS to divert limited resources to review these returns when such a small percentage, five one-hundredths of one percent, are projected to be affected by the issue."
Democrats increased the IRS budget by 6% in the recent omnibus spending legislation, and an additional 10,000 agents were expected to be hired.
