Clay White did not come into the 2021 football season on anyone’s radar. He even suffered a serious foot injury during the summer and was skeptical on how the injury could affect his playing time. However, White continued to work and secured a place on the offensive line as a first-year starting guard.
Even though Howe struggled to their second consecutive 0-10 season, White’s play on an offensive line stood out to opposing district coaches who chose him as first team all-district. White was the only senior on the offensive line that consisted of three sophomores and one freshman.
He’ll now head to Austin College for his next football experience.
“The biggest thing is that I wanted to play somewhere. Some colleges reached out, but they were really interested and showed that they wanted me,” he told the Herald Democrat. “The players were welcoming. It was huge to feel wanted by the whole program. It helps it was close to home.”
