The Howe Bulldogs (6-7, 0-2) doubled up the Bonham Warriors (0-4 in district play) last week. Howe blasted Bonham on Tuesday 15-1 at their home ballpark. Carson Daniels needed only 67 pitches to disperse the Warriors. He went five innings, allowing one run on five hits. He walked four and struck out three. pitches before being relieved by Matt Hayes. Haley went three innings allowing one run on two hits. He walked one and struck out six. Hayes battled out of trouble to get two strikeouts to end the fourth inning with runners on base. Pecina threw the final 28 pitches of the game allowing two runs on two walks and three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs collected 16 hits during the contest with Austin Haley leading the way with a 3-for-4 evening with two doubles and a triple. He scored two runs to add to his big night.

Kaleb McNutt, Ethan Lopez, and Cooper Jones each had two hits and two runs scored. Garren Lankford scored three runs on two hits. Luke Lopez scored three runs on one hit and two bases on balls. Carson Daniels went 2-for-4 and Parker Pecina went 2 -for-3.

On Friday, Howe won 12-5 at home against Bonham where Haley was the starting pitcher and threw a total of 57 At the plate, Howe was led by Haley, who feasted on Warrior pitching. He went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Ethan Lopez also went 2-for-4.

Howe did most of the damage in the third inning where Lankford Luke Catching, and Luke Lopez led off with back-to-back-to-back walks. McNutt then reached on an error and Haley ripped a double. Daniels then hit a single. Ethan Lopez then reached on an error that drove in Pecina and the seventh run of the inning. Howe added two runs in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.

Just as in 2020, they are moving the setting of this classic Greek tragedy to a Viking/Game of Thrones vibe, which Ciani says is so much fun to play with in terms of set and costumes.

“We only have two students in the show this year that were in that production, so it really is an entirely different show as these kids bring so much different and new to the concept,” Ciani said.

One-Act is unlike sports playoffs as they don’t have a schedule to prepare for playoffs. Each competition is a “win or go home” scenario as the playoffs begin on day one. In order to advance, they must finish in the top three. Howe finished second at district which took place March 3 at Denison High School. Pottsboro finished first and Whitewright placed third. At District, Catelyn Armstrong won Outstanding Technician for her work with our lights. Gabrielle Smith received Honorable Mention All Star Cast for her role as Teiresias. Riley Troxtell and Audie Martin received All Star Cast for their roles as Aide and Antigone. Ethan Strunc received Best Performer.

At bi-district on March 21, Howe took first place and advanced alongside Edgewood and Commerce who placed second and third, respectively.

Caleb Hix received Outstanding Technician for live drums while Audie Martin and Lucas Mitchell received Honorable Mention All Star Cast, and Ethen Strunc received Best Performer again.

Howe will compete at the area contest on Thursday, March 31 at 10:30 am at Grayson College.
