Marissa Agee, a freshman at the University of Texas at Tyler, is the latest runner for UT Tyler Women's Track and Field to claim the women's 800 meter school record after breaking the record by just 0.14 seconds with a time of 2:20.27.
While at Howe, she ran twice at the UIL State Track Meet and very well could have been three times had it not been for the cancellation of the meet in 2020.

Agee owns the Howe school record in 800 meters also when she ran an incredible time of 2:15.93 in 2019. She finished seventh overall in the State of Texas last May with a time of 2:25.40.
Agee is a Class of 2021 Howe High School graduate and is the daughter of Brian and Ginger Agee.

The Howe Lady Bulldogs (9-20, 3-8) have been formally eliminated from the playoffs this season. But they ended the week on a high note by ending a six-game losing streak with a 43-26 win over Bonham.
On Tuesday, Howe hosted Pottsboro who has only lost one district game. The Lady Cardinals jumped out to an 11-6 lead over Howe early to end the first period. They kept cruising and took a 25-17 lead into the intermission.
The third period was flat for Howe as they were outscored 20-5 in the period. The Lady Bulldogs did take the final quarter, 17-12 but the lead was too much to overcome, and Pottsboro came up with the 57-39 win.

On Friday night, Howe looked to move past Bonham for the second time in the season as their last win came against the Lady Warriors back in early January at Bonham by a score of 44-24. The score of Friday night’s game was nearly identical as Howe (Continued on page 9)

first was when I was the only one in my class.” Griffin acquired the heifer in the fall and keeps her at the family barn. He says the work he puts into it is constant which not only includes feeding and manipulating feed, but he’s also had to wash her and dry her each day.
“She’s got so much hair and you have to get it all dry or she could start losing hair which is a big deal,” said Griffin who spends an hour and a half each day for that process. “It’s a full-time deal.”
He says he puts some products on her hair to get it to stand out and keep it fresh.
The next stop for Griffin will be San Antonio before heading to the local county show at Loy Lake. They’ll then head to the Houston Livestock Show and possibly Austin.
He’s hoping he can win at one of the larger events so he can obtain a scholarship for his efforts.
Griffin was apprehensive about naming the heifer but after some convincing, he decided on “Wooly” because she has so much hair.
He says after this year’s shows, he’ll continue to keep working her hair through the summer, but time spent working may interfere with the daily process. He says his sister Kendall will have to take over the grooming part because he believes she’ll ended up showing her next year.
“They can show for two years and next year, when she’s two years old and bred, she’ll be really good,” said Griffin of Wooly. “Most people believe that the reason I didn’t get champion is because the heifer that beat me was a 2-year bred heifer.” Griffin wanted to thank his ag teacher at Howe High School Billy Dusenberry.
“He helped me a lot on what to feed her and just helped me a lot overall, said Griffin. “He cares and I really appreciate that.” He also wanted to thank his parents Kenneth and Debby Griffin of Howe and the Pembrook Cattle Company and owner Travis Pembrook who came to the show and clipped her for a last minute manicure.

beat Gunter, 46-28 at home, however, you never know what you’re going to get from night to night from the Tigers as they recently beat Pottsboro, Blue Ridge, and Bells, but lost to Bonham and Whitewright. Howe lost at Blue Ridge 43-40 on Jan. 11 but had a chance to win during the final moments of the game.
The Bulldogs got revenge on the Pottsboro Cardinals on Tuesday night at home as they were throttled at Pottsboro back in December, 62-31. It seemed to be a ‘here we go again’ start with the Cardinals racing out to an early, 8-2 lead. However, Howe, with their outstanding guard play, stormed back to tie the game at 12 after an Austin Haley layup and a Jacob Campbell 3-bomb. Haley then gave Howe their first lead with a 3-pointer of his own with an assist from Campbell. The Bulldogs turned the game completely around and let 23-14 with a little over a minute remaining in the second period before taking a 25-15 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of the break, Campbell hit a wide open 3-pointer with 6:05 left in the third to put Howe up 30-15. But Pottsboro answered right back with a three of their own by Connor Hosch.
Howe appeared to add to their 34-23 lead heading into the fourth period after Campbell was fouled on a 3-point attempt in the final second of the third. However, no call was made, and the score stood entering the final stanza.
Pottsboro got within 37-29 in the fourth, but with the Cardinals using a press and tight defense on the guards, Haley found an open Zak Defrange all alone under the basket for an easy layup to stretch the lead back to 10.

Haley, Campbell, and Luke Lopez all shot foul shots well down the stretch and the Bulldogs closed out a commanding 47-37 win over Pottsboro which led to an enthusiastic trip back to the lock room after the game.
Campbell led Howe with 21 points followed by Luke Lopez’ nine. Other scorers were Haley (8), Defrange (5), and Eli Wilson (4). Defrange led Howe with seven rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 15-of-18 at the foul line (83.3 percent) to help secure the win.
On Friday night, the Bonham Warriors came to town looking for an upset win. But Campbell again was red hot and put down 18 points in the win with a perfect 10-for-10 night at the line. Howe again shot an impressive 19-for-20 at the foul line.
Bonham got out to a 3-1 lead, but that was quickly washed away by a 3-point play by Campbell and Howe never looked back. Midway through the first quarter, Haley, who came in nursing an ankle injury, broke the ankles of most of the spectators on his way to a sharp layup to give Howe a 9-3 lead with 3:40 left in the first.
