end of the night. This event was initially planned for Dec. 11 after the Christmas Parade, but a “Meet Santa” event at Summit Gardens pushed back the dinner to last Friday.

Nearly $2,000 was raised for the department in a span of around an hour. The dinner began at 5:30 pm with online orders for dine-in or take-out. Before the night began, the chamber had already received 23 take-out orders.

The event had several sponsors including Walmart who donated $250 worth of briskets. Don’s Smokehouse also contributed top shelf briskets. Guns N More donated the Glock 43 and their owner and chamber board member Jared Coffey made homemade potato salad and beans. Board member Tom Defrange smoked the nine briskets overnight on Thursday which were delivered to Summit Gardens on Friday afternoon just before the event.

The Howe Fire Department contributed containers, rolls, and drinks. They also served the food behind the scenes.

“All in all, it was a great night for the first time we’ve tried this,” said Chamber President Monte Walker. “We ended up with around $1,500 plus what money was placed in the donation jar and it was a substantial amount.”

Howe Fire Chief Robert Maniet thanked the chamber and the community for coming out to support the event.
