Road rage incident in Howe lands Oklahoma woman in the Grayson County Jail

HOWE, Texas – A Del City, Oklahoma, woman was arrested and booked into the Grayson County Jail Monday on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after brandishing a weapon at other motorists during a road rage incident in Howe. The incident began in Van Alstyne and carried over into Howe as Philissa Ashford, 37, reportedly weaved in and out of traffic pointing a firearm at other motorists. Howe officers stopped Ashford’s black 2008 Toyota Avalon and seized a firearm matching the description of the gun provided by a 911 caller. Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon is a second-degree felony, and if convicted, Ashford faces up to 20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

season, and only one day in full pads, no starting positions, or even roster spots have been guaranteed. But one sure lock is 3year starter Austin Haley who enters his junior year already ranked 5th all-time in school history in passing yards. He only trails Chase Fountain, Jay Skipworth, Brian Freese, and Rick Hanning. With a 1,000-yard season, he will be 3rd all-time entering his senior year with an outstanding chance of becoming Howe’s all-time leading passer. The losses of Jalen Thornton and Jordan Jones are no doubt going to hurt the overall speed of the offensive run game. But moving to a one-back look with 3-year starter Carson Daniels who’s downhill running looks as good as ever early in camp. Daniels missed much of the season a year ago due to a surgical procedure but looks to play the leading role in the backfield along with Bryce Crosby. The biggest surprise could be 3year starter Matthew Bearden who missed virtually all of last season with a finger injury. He has always played on the offensive line, but with a drop in weight is being looked at as a tight end. Bearden has always had good speed and hands for a lineman.

If 7-on-7 from the summer is any indication, Kaleb McNutt could be poised for an outstanding senior year at receiver. The tall slender wideout is showing outstanding hands in camp and plays larger than his frame. Returning starter Ryan Hough has always been an outside threat and that shouldn’t change. Cooper Jones is getting reps as an inside slot receiver which is where he most dangerous. Jones is a weapon in space and his 6’0, 210 pound frame is a load to bring down.

Returning starter, sophomore Mahlon Walker, is getting reps at center with senior Jordan Troxtell working left guard, junior Caleb Hix at left tackle, freshman Charlie Vera at right guard, and senior Luis Gonzalez at right tackle. Also vying for spots on the line are Ayden Burris, Luciano Vazquez, Clay White, Brodie McCollum, and Michael Riddle among others. Coach J says the offensive line pieces are still coming together. On defense, senior Will Fleming returns at nose tackle after missing all but the opening game of the season a year ago. Senior Jaryn Grisham is expected to also anchor the defensive line. Hix, Troxtell, Jones, and Crosby are all linebackers. Both cornerbacks are returning in Caleb Wahrmund and Wesley Ingle and Haley was selected as an All-Texomaland safety. Look out for sleeper sophomore Kolin Murphy who should find a role. Junior Matt Hayes will see a lot of action on both sides of the field.

Head Coach Bill Jehling enters his fourth season at Howe. The schedule is brutal, and he understands that. If Howe were in Division II, they’d be a sure lock for a playoff spot and maybe even a deep playoff run.
