Howe ISD made an announcement on Friday, October 2 that they would no longer offer remote instruction due to a high failure rate after the first six weeks among students not participating in in-person learning. The Howe Lady Bulldogs ended their season last week with losses to Pottsboro and Leonard. HHS senior Jake Fabacher ran a 17:52 in the District Meet on Wednesday which was a personal record and a school record and qualified him for the regional meet. The previous best was 18:22 held by Jonathan Queen in 2009. Fellow senior Marissa Agee also finished second and will also advance to regionals for the third consecutive year. “We’ve been relatively lucky (to not have more COVID positive cases). We know tomorrow could be different. Every day is a new day,” said Howe ISD Superintendent Kevin Wilson citing that Blue Ridge and Bonham have closed campuses. “If it does hit (Howe ISD), we will still offer remote instruction if our campuses shut down.” Wilson said the campuses are diligent with maskwearing and cleaning stations. Clint Catching was easily reelected for his third term with a total count of 1,447. Catching’s total was a whopping 597 votes ahead of the next opponent. With longtime board member Brad Anderson vacating his seat, challenger Lisa Tibbets will fill the void by collecting 850 votes. COVID19 ends ‘Friday Night Lights’ season prematurely as Howe had several players test positive for COVID-19 which sent most of the team into quarantine and left no choice but to cancel the final game with Mt. Vernon. Howe finished the season 0-9 and became only the second Bulldogs team to not win a game in a season. COVID-19 took away the annual Veterans Day Program by the National Honor Society, however, the NHS threw a parade for them which unfortunately was not well attended. Howe FFA announces a Texas Hold’em Fundraiser Event. Marissa Agee places 17 of 136 cross country runners; Jacob Fabacher was unable to compete due to quarantine despite negative COVID test. Howe sales tax is $47,693.07 which is 22 percent ahead of November 2019. Jesse Stonebarger recognized for leadership at Howe Church of Christ.
