Lady Bulldogs take down Bonham with late rally

The Howe Lady Bulldogs (3-5, 13) got their first district win Tuesday with a 39-33 come-frombehind win over Bonham at home. Playing without Sierra Copeland, Howe found themselves tied after the first period at 15. Howe carried a 24-22 halftime lead, but trailed Bonham, 32-29 headed to the fourth quarter. However, the Lady Bulldogs pumped the gas in the fourth to outpace the Lady Warriors, 10-1 in the final stanza. Howe was led in scoring by Trinity Williams with 15, followed by Kendall Griffin’s 10. Teagan Stubblefield ripped down 11 rebounds. Other scorers were Landery Sanders (4), Katie Grogan (4), Matalee Stewart (4), Stubblefield (1), and Avery Snapp (1).

The Howe Bulldogs game with Bonham was postponed due to a COVID outbreak in Bonham. The Howe boys will play Celeste on Dec. 29.

Also, 2020 HHS graduate Lane Griffin, the son of Kenneth and Debby Griffin, was the state proficiency winner in Diversified Agriculture Placement. City of Howe sales tax revenues continue climb despite pandemic. Tufner Weighing Systems in full operation of old west side Magni-Fab building. The Howe Ex-Students Association’s All-School Reunion to be held in September is officially rescheduled for 2021. The local youth baseball and softball regular seasons come to an end after a shortened regular season. Howe will send 10U and 14U teams to the all-star tournaments. The 14U team, coached by Monte Walker, Brad Murphy, and Josh Daniels, will head to the state tournament in Longview on July 31-August 2. Chamber cancels the Blue Bell Ice Cream Social and the Howe Community Pep Rally is cancelled. Bulldogs picked seventh in highly-touted District 5-3A-1 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
