Howe’s New Beginning Fellowship church located at 910 S. Denny Street in Howe has a new pastor. Recently, Wallace Rains stepped down after a long tenure as pastor and his associate pastor Brett Hetrick has been assigned to lead the congregation along with his wife Deb. New Beginning Fellowship is of the Assemblies of God denomination.

Hetrick is a licensed professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist to go along with his pastoral work. He graduated from Texas Woman’s University with his master’s degree in 2004.

He received his training to be a pastor at Christ of the Nations in South Dallas in 1991 and has been involved in ministry for many years, although this will be his first official position of lead pastor.

Hetrick is from a little town in southwestern Wyoming called Big Piney which is known as the ice box of the nation due to its more consecutive below-zero temperature days than anywhere in the lower 48 states.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming in social science with a minor in psychology. With an

opportunity to attend graduate school, he was given a scholarship at Texas Woman’s University.

“I had to kind of deal with the name of the college, being a male,” said Hetrick. “But I got a good education there.” In Wyoming, he grew up changing oil and fixing tires at a local gas station at the age of 13. He continued working there until high school when he went to work in the oil fields until 1988 when he moved to Texas.

Not all pastors grow up in the church and Hetrick says it was a life-changing event that brought him to God.
