August 14 6th Grade Orientation Howe MS Cafeteria: 1 adult with each student with masks. We will provide information, introduce some of our staff and release students to put supplies in their lockers. Report to cafeteria. Park in gym parking lot. 3 sessions and online information available:

8:30 (students last name A-I) 9:45 (students last name J-Q) 11:00 (students last name R-Z)

August 17 iPad pick up at the HMS Cafeteria: Student and one parent only w/ mask. iPad insurance is $40. If at all possible please attend by these times based on your last name.

The long-awaited opening of Hana’s Café Market, a Chinese restaurant, took place two Saturdays ago. The results from the first week were overwhelming said owner Earng Heng. It was 75 percent take-out and 25 percent dine-in during the first week for the family-owned and operated business.

While school is out, you can find Heng’s son Alex, daughter Phoebe, and wife Huana, and brotherin-law Zelin.

“It’s been great. I’m surprised,” said Earn Heng on the first week of business. “A lot of people from out of town are coming here also.”

Heng said the favorite dish by far is the orange chicken along with the fried rice. The café is located at 105 S. Denny St. where Stark Lane Gifts was located previously. Prior to that, it was owned by Jack Leavenworth as an apartment. The building was originally constructed as a cabinet shop.

“When the property came open, I thought I could do something with it and there wasn’t a Chinese restaurant, so I thought it would be a good idea. My wife is a great cook so I thought, ‘let’s see what she can do with a restaurant.’”

The Heng family also owns a Chinese pastry company in Garland where they distribute all along the state and up and down the east coast. That business was established in 1987 and is operat-
