The Howe Ex-Students Association met on Saturday morning to discuss the upcoming Howe All-School Reunion which takes place every five years. Due to the pandemic and the uncertainty of availability of school property use, the group decided to cancel the event and move it to homecoming 2021.

Bulldogs picked seventh in highly-touted District 5-3A-1 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football

The UIL Texas High School Football season is breathing down the neck of the calendar and COVID-19. No one knows yet what the outcome or decisions will be regarding the season, but the first day of conditioning is set to begin in Aug. 3. No contact activities permitted that day and no contact equipment except helmets may be worn.

Howe was picked just ahead and only ahead of Bonham in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. The longtime publication picked Pottsboro to win the district championship with Winnsboro, Mineola, Mount Vernon, Emory Rains, and Commerce finishing respectively behind them in that order.

Howe will return sophomore quarterback Austin Haley who is Howe’s best gunslinger since Chase Fountain a decade ago. Haley’s 16 touchdowns as a freshman set a school record and ranks him fifth all-time in the Bulldogs passing records. He’ll tie Jamie Engle with his second touchdown pass on the season. With 20 touchdown passes, he would tie Fountain for second alltime.

The ’Dogs also return senior Jalen Thornton who rushed for 1,006 yards and eight touchdowns and caught 32 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns. Haley has another weapon in senior Jordan Jones who had 10 catches for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Other notable returning starters are Jackson Adkins, Dakota Harrington, and Carson Daniels.

The magazine listed top juniors for Howe as Will Fleming and Luke Lopez with Matthew Bearden listed as a top sophomore. The publication did not list top freshmen, but Cooper Jones could get a look for varsity this season.

August 8 is the first eligible day of full contact. Howe’s first scrimmage is set for Aug. 14 with Lone Oak at Bulldog Stadium.

A five day rule applies between scrimmages and Howe will travel to Tom Bean on Aug. 21 for the final tune-up before the season opener at Callisburg on Aug. 28.

What’s the score?

Normally, we’re in to selling ads not purchasing them, but since we broadcast the Howe Bulldogs football games, we thought it would be a good idea to put our info on the scoreboard and give back to the program at the same time. The Enterprise owners happened to be the biggest Bulldogs fans out there, you know. At least, we feel that way. If and when and whenever the games are played, we will broadcast all of them live. Businesses can sponsor the broadcast for $300 for the entire season. A few openings are still available. 1972 2019
