The home at 317 Denny Street was built in the 1890s by W.J. Tighe, Howe’s first postmaster. Tighe built the house on land granted to Jabez Haning on April 24, 1850, by Certificate Number 408, Volume 2, issued by Commissioners of Peters Colony and State of Texas by E.M. Pease, Governor and S. Crosby, Commissioner of the General Land Office. On April 11, 1990 J.A. Hughes bought the house sold with the following stipulations: A portion of the land be forever open for sidewalks and shade trees. Dr. D.C.L. Shelley and wife Eva owned the house in 1907. R.M. Roddy and wife Rozella (Rose) purchased the house and lived there until about 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Roddy were retail merchants. W.A. (Doc) Wilson purchased the house in the early 1930s, their heirs sold the house in 1993. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson operated a grocery store and service station for many years. It is currently owned by Roy Keith Harris.
