"We've had new people that have come on that seemed to blend right in with those that have been there awhile." said Akins. "We don't have a lot of upheaval Certainly, you don't want discord We've have a lot of independently thinking members on the board that ask a lot of questions, but at the end of the day, everybody is respectful of each other and respectful of everybody's opinions."
Akins is a Howe High School graduate He's the son of Murray Akins, Jr and Jean Akins He and his wife Sue have one son, Jake, who is a2014 graduate of Howe High School Greg Akins has three brothers, Mark, Eric and Kent, all of which have contributed to the betterment of Howe.

Tamela Shadden and Michael Doty were sworn in Monday night as they fill the seats vacated by Akins and Jeff Denham, who moved out of the district The board now has three new members in the last two years with Josh Vincent taking the vacated seat of Bruce Dawsey last May
