Veterans Continued from page 3 philosophy: 'A government of the people, by the people, for the people '

I stand guard over my nation's schools, the origin of good citizenship and true patriotism

I am displayed in every schoolroom throughout my nation; every schoolyard has a flag pole for my display

Daily, thousands upon thousand of boys and girls pledge their allegiance to me and my country

I have my own law - Public Law

829, 'The Flag Code' - which clearly states my correct use and display for all occasions and situations

I have my special day, Flag Day June 14 is set aside to honor my birth

American, I am the sacred emblem of your country I symbolize your birthright, your heritage of liberty purchased with blood and sorrow.

I am your title deed of freedom, which is yours to enjoy and hold in trust of all future generations

If you fail to keep this sacred trust not changed, if I am nullified and destroyed, you and your children will become slaves to dictators

Eternal vigilance is your price of freedom

As you see me silhouetted against the peaceful skies of my country, remind yourself that I am the flag of your country, that I stand for what you are - no more, no less

Guard me well, to avoid your freedom perishing from the earth

Dedicate your lives to those principles for which I stand: 'One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all '

I was created in freedom I made my first appearance in a battle for human liberty

God grant that I may spend eternity in my 'land of the free and the home of the brave' and that I shall ever be known as 'Old Glory,' the flag of the United States of America

Old Glory, the flag of the United States of America is almost certainly the most honored flag in the world As a nation, we stand in respect for the national anthem and stand in respect for the flag Not simply because we were born here or because it's our flag We stand in honor to the stars and stripes as the emblem of our country and the symbol of all that our patriotism means

We identify the flag with almost everything we hold dear in our hearts It represents our peace and security, our civil and political liberty, our freedom of religious worship, our family, our friends, and our home We see it in the great multitude of blessings, of rights and privileges that make up our country

So when the history of this unfortunate, polarized era of American life is written, whether a man stood or knelt will matter far less than the values we all lived by It is every American's constitutional right to stand or kneel as they wish before the American flag

But when we look at our flag and behold it decorated with all our rights, we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done. A yearly liberty of our flag strengthens and purifies the national conscience

How glorious then, has been its origin How glorious has been its history How divine its meaning In all the world is there another banner that carries such hope, such grandeur of spirit, such soulinspiring truth, as our dear old American Flag? Made by liberty, made for liberty, nourished in its spirit, carried in its service, and never, not once, in all of earth's time, made to stoop to tyranny!

This is why when people disrespect the flag by kneeling before it, they are in reality cutting against the American cultural grain, besides picking the wrong target on the merit The American flag isn't a Confederate monument - indeed the opposite Our military fights under it The flag drapes the caskets of the fallen and is folded in a solemn ceremony at military funerals, with practically every movement filled with religious and patriotic meaning My flag, your flag, our flag is not to be trifled with - unless you intend to insult the country for which it stands God Bless our flag and God Bless the United States of America "
