The Howe High School Robotics team started building their robot back in September for the competition that took place over the weekend Howe made it to the semifinal round and placed first in the wildcard round and overall finishing 16 out of the 52 teams

The Howe High program is led by teacher Sam Wingate who has been involved with the robotics competition for over four years

"We've got one experienced builder, but we have others that are experienced in other areas such as marketing and presentation," said Wingate

Bryant Slawson is the experienced builder He has been attending Howe schools since kindergarten

"I've been working on the assembly to shoot golf balls with the musket," said Slawson. "I've been working to get it able to shoot with a lot of power but it is more difficult than I thought it would be "

Slawson likes the robot's simple design choice with multiple functions

Early exposure to hands-on learning and STEM education is one of the best ways to engage students and ultimately set them on a long-term path for success in college and a career of their choice Robotics programming allows students to receive exposure to real-life problem solving in a competitive, fun environment
