Dressing up

In true Howe Spirit, students met the Homecoming dress up prompts fully and with creativity This year’s spirit week focused on the American spirit and patriotism

On Monday of spirit week, students were divided into upper and lower classmen to dress in stars and stripes respectively Tuesday was “Tacky Tourist Day”, and teachers and students dug out their Hawaiian shirts and fanny packs to dress as tacky as possible Wednesday had the school seeing double as pairs of friends dressed alike for twin day Bulldog nation day was Thursday Students were dressed head to toe in black and white to support the bulldog spirit Finally, on “Freedom Friday”, the patriotic spirit of Howe was overwhelming as students wore anything and everything stars and stripes or red, white, and blue The students and staff had a great time dressing up and showing their school spirt!

Each year the students of Howe High vote on a boy and a girl to represent the school as the Homecoming King and Queen The queen was announced before the homecoming football game on September 22nd It was revealed that Alli Morgan was this year’s homecoming queen and she was excited to hear the news while standing on the field that Friday evening The following day, Cade Courtney was announced as king during the homecoming dance Cade was enthusiastic about his victory and celebrated through dance

Harvey Volunteers

Student Council had several volunteers collect donations at the homecoming football game Student volunteers stood at the gates and wondered the stadium asking spectators for donations to the hurricane Harvey cause The students were vastly successful the money will be donated to a school in the Houston area to help in this needy time

College Fair

On September 19th representatives form colleges across the country came together to inform curious students about the schools they are representing Students were excused from class briefly in order in attending Students were able to give the colleges information about themselves in order to remain informed about the school and its opportunities

Senior, Connor Jackson, took the initiative this year to start a Howe chapter of the Interact club with the help of Ms Heilman, the school counselor Interact is the student run high school branch of the Rotary club Connor has done the brunt work in starting the organization and Ms Heilman is proud of the work he has put into it

Despite its infancy, the Interact club has already elected officers, done a community project, and taken representatives on a field trip

Connor was unanimously voted to be the organization’s president, the other members of the leadership team include Gage Hendrickson (Vice President), Stephanie Lukash and Amanda Miller (serving together as Treasurer), Micaela Wade (Secretary), and Karsyn Fleming and Jorie Seibold (Public Relations) The members of the leadership team are enthusiastic to serve the organization and community

In order to help those families displaced by hurricane Harvey, the Interact Club began to collect jars of peanut butter The organization was able to collect 54 jars for their cause!

On September 30th, the Interact club leaders took their peanut butter to a conference where they learned about starting a chapter of Interact and compared their peanut butter haul to other chapters The Howe chapter was only two jars short of coming in 4th place!

See You at the Pole

On September 27th students gathered around Howe High’s flag pole to pray Students prayed over a variety of subjects and joined hands in a show of fellowship

Students had a positive start to their day and a doughnut at this heartwarming gathering

Chipotle Fundraiser

Throughout the two weeks before October 6th, the high school Student Council adamantly advertised their “Chipotle Fundraiser” The student council partnered with the restaurant in order to raise funds for the organization When ordering food at the restaurant, if a customer said they were with Howe Student Council or showed the cashier a flyer, the restaurant donated 50% of the proceeds to the student council Thanks to the supportive members of the Howe community, the student raised $278! These funds are put to good use by the student council for various events and activities

One Act Play is underway! Ms Nail and Ms Wilson of Howe High School have already held auditions and assigned roles Rehearsals began on October 11th The cast and crew alike are ecstatic for their performance of Monster by Don Zolidis. The play has a dark and creepy tone and tells the tale behind the writing of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein The team in determined to be stiff competition this spring when they compete
