A Honor Roll - Fifth Grade

A/B Honor Roll - Sixth Grade served as a head baseball coach for 26 of his 27 years in coaching He has had stops in Holliday, Wichita Falls Rider, Wichita Falls Hirschi, Rogers, Farmersville, and Leonard, and Saginaw He has won over 440 games in his career, twice taking teams to their best season in school history at Rogers (36-2) and Farmersville (31-9) He has 53 playoff wins against 19 losses

During his time at Farmersville, the 2012 Farmers had a berth in the Class 4A regional finals where they lost to State Champion Texarkana Pleasant Grove Coheley will also coach the defensive line in football

"I would have hired him anyway, but bringing his son with him makes it that much sweeter" said Hudson

The to-be-freshman Coheley is a three-sport athlete He's a dynamic passing quarterback and a natural point guard in basketball His true talents could be in baseball where he currently plays on a national team with 18-year-olds

Another hire is Mike Segleski who comes from Princeton The former Aubrey head coach brings another personality that is a big presence with the kids

"He and Paul will bring help that I need They've been athletic directors before and they understand how to run a coaches office when the coach isn't there." said Hudson "They'll help in the dimension that Coach Rhoten really helped in the last couple of years "

The story with Segleski could be that Hudson will turn over the defense completely to him Hudson, has been the defensive coordinator for the past fours seasons while also serving as head coach But he says that he'll now coach outside linebackers and receivers and let Segleski handle the defensive calling

As reported in the April 24 edition of the Howe Enterprise, Michael Hartsfield has been hired to be the offensive coordinator and transition from the slot-T to the wing-T offense Hartfield is a native of Van Alstyne which should bring some added flavor to the Silver Spike, as if any was needed His Wing-T should be very familiar to Bulldogs fans as prior to the most recent successful run in the program's history, Howe's "PostWar Glory Days" happened from 1985-1991 when Howe featured the wing-T offense under Jim Fryar and later Joey McQueen Most casual fans will not see much of a difference from the slot-T philosophy to the wing-T philosophy Over the past three years, Howe has rushed for an astonishing and nearly unimaginative 4,000 plus yards each season and have blown the doors off of competition due in most part to fitting the proper philosophies to match the players' strengths Having a 6' 5" receiver in Ty Harvey, who will now split out, can change the approach and can force defenses to get out of the box In the slot-T, Howe in the last three years combined threw the ball, on average, 1 89 times per game with many halfback passes included in that total Howe fans might expect to average around four to five in the wing-T, same philosophy, but a variance of the approach

"I think you're beating your head against a wall when you don't change " said Hudson "There's a reason Gunter changed They've run three different offenses in the last three years They do what matches their kids and we have to do the same "

While there is no question that Hudson compiled the greatest coaching staff in Howe history from 2014-2016, he now has been tasked with the daunting challenge of replacing the entire system with one as good or even better

"We've lost some really good coaches But half of the losses were to circumstances out of anyone's control And other coaches left for better opportunities Those that left are my friends "

Hudson will begin his fifth season as the varsity head football coach and clocks in with a 29-19 record which ranks him tied for fourth in the win category behind Norman Dickey (55), Jim Fryar (41), Davey DuBose (34), and tied with Buck Smith (29) He has the most playoff wins of any Howe varsity head football coach with five

Howe's first game is scheduled for September 1 at Howe against the defending state champion Gunter Tigers

The world is changing fast Some see that as a reason for fear, while others see an opportunity The most successful men and women are those who seize what life has to offer and charge ahead into the future Those most worthy of admiration are those who not only become successful themselves but also open a door for the success of others One of those Texas builders of the future was Eugene McDermott, co-founder of both Texas Instruments and the University of Texas at Dallas

Eugene McDermott was born in Brooklyn, New York, in February 1899, a time when cars and airplanes were still only dreams and electric lights and telephones were still distant luxuries for others He had a sharp sense of curiosity, and as a young man, enrolled at Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1919 while still only 20 years old

In 1923, he started working at Western Electric, an electrical engineering and manufacturing firm that mostly developed telephone wires and components for American Telephone and Telegraph Co At the same time, McDermott began furthering his own education and earned a masters degree in physics from New York City’s Columbia University in 1925

After graduate school, he soon began working with Western Electric co-worker Clarence Karcher, who had started a new company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Geophysical Research Corporation Karcher was using seismographs not just to detect earthquakes but as a promising new tool in oil exploration Along the way, McDermott used his skills to fine-tune their techniques.

In 1930, McDermott partnered with Karcher and E L DeGolyer to form Geophysical Services Inc , continuing their seismographic oil
