Director Melissa Atchison gave a fiscal year-end recap of the activity that took place as well as recognized some volunteers and students that accomplished achievements Sandra Nitchman received first place in the Summer Reading Contest with 83 chapter books read Her sister, Janna Nitchman came in a close second with 78 First place came with a $25 gift card to Cinemark Theaters and second place came with $15 candy cart bucks

The library fiscal year is Sept 1 - Aug 31 and the total circulation of books during that time was 29,268. In addition to that, 2,022 eBooks were checked out along with 97 audiobooks 2,014 videos were checked out to give a grand total of 37,406 items for the year

The school budget, which includes databases, copiers, magazines, books, eBooks, supplies and computers came to $22,400 The Grayson County money received was $2,000 which was spent on books and videos for the community portion of the library instead of the school portion

The library had 664 in attendance at childrens programs throughout the year Youth totalled 198 while adults were 298 These programs included Wee Readers, Garden Club, Summer Reading programs, Storytime with Santa, Circus Clown, and Scrapbook Group

Atchison said the number of volunteers (249) was an incredibly high number for a community the size of Howe Those volunteers put in 520 hours These volunteer hours were from projects in the library to working in the garden.

City Patrons that came through the door at the Howe Community Library totalled 7,762 Nearly 90 new library cards were issued and 2,082 patrons signed on to the computers at the library. Atchison explained that some stay on the computers all day while others just check their Facebook or print something and leave

Jefferson, physically worn out, began to run trick plays with a double reverse, halfback pass for a big gainer, but a penalty against Jefferson negated the big play Three plays later, they punted it back to Howe who would go 8plays and 52-yards and end it on Grisham's second touchdown of the evening - this one from the one yard line and gave Howe a 31-7 lead with 4:28 left in the game

Jefferson's final possession ended on an interception by Ty Harvey at the 40 yard line and the 'Dogs were able to kill the clock and take home the 31-7 win and will face Mineola on Friday at Royse City at 7:30

There was a lot of extracurricular activity towards the end of the game as one Jefferson player was ejected and several personal fouls were called against both teams

Prior to the arrival of Zack Hudson as the head coach of the Howe Bulldogs, the hometown team had only reached the third round of the playoffs three times (1985, 1989 and 1990) Since Hudson's hiring of Dale West to run the offense, Howe has now secured the third round for the second time in three seasons

Hudson passed Jim Fryar in playoff wins with five and tied Buck Smith in overall wins at 29

Mineola (10-2) won District 7-3A averages 48 points per game and give up 17 per game The Yellowjackets have won 10 in a row including Friday night's 50-33 win over Whitesboro in Greenville

Since 2014, Howe has gained 13,076 yards on the ground (6.97 yards per carry) and have scored 151 rushing touchdowns in the 37 games. During that time, Howe has thrown for 531 yards with six touchdown passes

Howe is averaging 61 plays per game in 2016. That is up from 50 in 2015 and 48 in 2014.
