Howe Elementary's "Day of Champions" is Friday
Howe Elementary's “Day of Champions” track meet will be held at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, May 20 The scheduled make-update would be held on Monday, May 23 in case of weather issues The meet will begin at 8:30 with the fourth grade mile and will conclude at 12 pm following lunch

Due to the May heat, the school wants to ensure that all students are able to participate the track meet, therefore, it will be held during the morning only Grades Kindergarten through fourth grade will run, eat lunch and then return to school The field events: broad jump and softball throw will be conducted during regular PE classes Please note: The Kindergarten class will only do their tennis ball throw and broad jump following their running events
The fourth grade will run the mile run starting at 8:30 am The entire track meet will begin at 9:00 a m with the kindergarten 40 yard dash Coach Steve Simmons wants to let parents know that clothing is important for your child’s welfare Light colored shirts are cooler in hot weather and should be short sleeve in order to cover the shoulder and prevent sunburn Appropriate shorts are excellent to run in and proper running shoes are also important Hats for shade may be worn, but no sunglasses unless medically prescribed
Each student will need to bring a lunch and one can or box drink no larger than 12 ounces Parents are invited to eat lunch with their children and may bring them extra food or drink Water will be available throughout the entire day for all students
There will be a concession stand open for all guests and parents may buy food items to take to their children only during lunch The proceeds from the concession stand will be deposited in the Physical Education fund for purchase of PE items
The track meet is a school day and attendance is required
"This is an important part of the child's educational development " said Simmons "We are not trying to develop athletes, but instill in every student an appreciation of their body and physical fitness It is so important that the students have their parents, relatives and friends to share this enjoyable day"
It is crucial that all parents and guests keep in mind that the track meet is a school day and that all students are under the supervision of their teachers Except for lunch, parents and guests should stay completely behind the fence during running events (See schedule of events on page 13)
