School Board extends Wilson's contract through 2017

In the January Howe ISD Board of Trustees meeting, the members approved the contract extension of Kevin Wilson for another year which will give him ten full years as superintendent of Howe ISD The ten year period makes Wilson the longest tenured superintendent of Howe since Charles R Thompson, who served in that same capacity for 23 years from 1949-1972

In 2000, Kevin Wilson came to Howe ISD as the high school principal and stayed in that position until 2006 when he became the assistant superintendent After the departure of then Superintendent Randy

Hancock in 2006, Wilson made the transition to superintendent.

Wilson was a principal during the fiscal rough times of the district in the 2002-2003 school year In an August 2014 interview, he said, "It was a challenge It caught a lot of people offguard, but we banded together Everybody hunkered down and we weathered the storm "

Wilson, since being superintendent has said that he's most proud that Howe ISD has maintained their fiscal stability throughout the legislative budget cuts in 2011 and been able to maintain competitive salaries with area school districts our size.

"The community's support of our tax ratification election in 2012 allowed us to do that " said Wilson

Wilson also says that he's seen a difference in community pride because of upgrades of facilities.

"The improvements that we have made to our athletic facilities have been positively received and provide our students and community a renewed source of pride And we were able to do all of this without a bond " said Wilson.

Wilson, a Denison native went kindergarten through graduation as a Yellow Jacket before graduating from Baylor. His first job continued on Page #11
