Lady Bulldogs start by beating 7th ranked 4A Melissa, 76-56

It was a big test early on for the Lady Bulldogs who come in ranked 21 in the state in the preseason polls by Texas Association of Basketball Coaches The same poll has Melissa ranked 7 in Class 4A Facing teams that are better than you always make you better in the long-run. But finding a team like that might be a little tough for Howe who has their eyes on the state tournament.

"I'm ready to go." said Head Coach Derek Lands "If we'll stay healthy, I think we'll be alright "

The girls started out better than alright by forcing Melissa to just 18 for 52 shooting from the field Meanwhile, Howe shot 24 of 48 on their way to the 76-56 win The Lady Bulldogs' sharp shooter Darci Foster knocked down three out of four three-pointers to finish second in points only to Howe's three-time District MVP Riley Harvey, who had 25 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

"We really put it to Melissa, as Coach Lands would say." said Harvey "I'm excited to see where it takes us I think we can go as far as we want to and as hard as we work If we keep working, we'll go far."

Howe got off to a good start by leading Melissa 14-12 after the first period Howe held the slimmest 2120 lead going into the half but dominated the third quarter by outscoring Melissa, 22-9 The Lady Cardinals put up a fight in the final frame, but Howe still outscored them, 23-17 to reach the final 20 point margin of victory

Lands had 13 different girls score at least one point in the contest Just under Harvey and Foster was sophomore Peyton Streetman, who knocked down eight points, all from the free-throw line. Kayla Anderson chipped in six points and five rebounds.

Other scorers were Madisyn Hargron (5), Landry Rhoten (5), Payton Griffin (4), Kamryn Fulenchek (4), Holly Hawkins (2), Jaylyn Mosse (2), Hunter Brockleman (2), Kaity Helpenstell, and Alissa Smith with one each

The girls will travel to Whitewright next Tuesday night to face the Lady Tigers
