Students of the Month

were outgrowing their space and needed to expand

The initial plan was to move in around late April, but a few snags kept dragging the interior renovation out The building, formerly knows as Thompson's Hardward and then Designer Cuts, has been completely gutted and then constructed with numerous offices and cubicles The cubicles were made from the original bead board ceiling wood

The hardwood floors have been refinished and evidence of the old hardware store still exists with the measurements still marked on the floor

The sale of the building took place in late February of this year when Paris Palacios and M.E. Curtis sold it to the Defrange family.

With the newest business now open in downtown, it means that every possible building in the historic district is occupied This just after nearly all of them were empty 18 months ago Downtown spaces are now full

Old church helps restart Howe Enterprise; Howe Enterprise helps restart old church

It's funny how God takes us on a path of trials and tribulations, prunes us and rewards us and all to His glory. The "Save the Church" committee hits home to me and is a priority to me because my life was changed in that church No, I didn't grow up in that church and never even had been in there (to my knowledge) prior to 2013 I've never known anything other than FBC Howe (other than that one trip to the OLD First United Methodist Church dungeon nursery as a toddler scary place!) It's a wild story and I thought that, without a football game to write about, I could fill some spaces with this work of God's plan

Back in 2013, I was approached by a city councilman to startup the Keep Howe Beautiful program This coming off of my polite letter to please clean up our ballfields off of the off-ramp which is the first glimpse of Howe to our northern neighbors, but I digress effort this was going to take. By the time I left, I was overwhelmed. Not only was it a daunting task, but I was overcome when I found a complete set of Howe Enterprise newspapers from the first edition in 1963 through 1980 A family friend, Wanda and Moe Moses, had saved every edition and donated them to the Howe Historical Society Also in there were some 1930s and 40s Howe Messenger newspapers With my late grandfather owning the Howe paper from 1966-1974, I could read all of his work and what his life was like week-to-week I took the old newspapers, which somehow were in incredibly great shape, and secured them away from the cats and mice of that old building I took them home and started scanning them and wondering what it would be like to have a Howe Enterprise again for our own city But then, I went back to work at my job with the intentions of scanning the complete set "some day"

Upon starting up Keep Howe Beautiful with the help of some great leaders, I found myself with the idea of restoring the old First Christian Church I got the key from the city to take a look at the damage and see what kind of continued on Page #10

Fast forward to February of 2014 and I lost my job that I had been at for seven years - a great paying job, but I felt I had more to offer than driving around and changing pumptoppers. But when I was let go, I
