Brett Jones is all set to open Texas Home Emporium with a Friday noon ribbon-cutting by the Howe Area Chamber of Commerce He admits to being nervous because he's taking a risk on a small town and a new entrepreneurship
Jones was lured to town by Georgia Caraway, owner of Howe Mercantile and likes what he's seen from her store. "I've never operated in a town this small, but I've been very encouraged." said Jones "The people are very nice and we've also drawn people from Sherman, Van Alstyne and Anna "
Texas Home Emporium held their soft-opening on Saturday, August 15 to a good crowd
Jones has been an antique collector since he was in his 20s and has been in many antique malls including Love Field Antique Mall and operated a store on lower Greenville Avenue in Dallas for many years
"The last seven years, I managed the Antique Galary in Denton " said Jones "That's where I really got to know Georgia "
He says that the most proud accomplishment he's had is the revitalization of the Antique Gallary in Denton
"No one was doing western stuff, so we took about a third of the gallary and created The Western Heritage Gallary." said Jones. "We pulled dealers from all over Texas
Once Jones was able to later get the Sachse store up and running, he decided to do something different He says that he does estate sales and design work
"I'm ready to break out on my own I've spent years selling other people's stuff " said Jones "I'm just anxious to kind of build my own "
Texas Home Emporium will be open Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 8pm to coincide with the large crowds that come downtown during lunch and dinner hours to the two restaurants.
"I think small towns are underserviced " said Jones "When you go into a big city, there's a lot more traffic, but there's a lot more competition as well "
Jones is nervous, but banking on experience and "know Howe "
