Old DQ building getting TLC Trailblazer in Howe today

The old Dairy Queen building has seen many changes and many business go in and out over the building's 48-year existence However, the structure has never seen a facelift like it is currently going through

Owner Tommie Wright has hired her brother to do the construction work which includes re-framing the inside of the building to meet new codes The old glass has been removed and await more modern windows with a better look The door will be enlarged to a doubledoor opening.

Monte Walker says that Wright has been contacted by a business that would like to use the facility very soon However, no deal has been officially arranged

Wright is hoping that the construction will be completed by September before she has to leave the country

The Howe Community Library will be hosting a special traveling science program on Monday, June 22. The Trailblazer is a traveling science exhibit filled with hands-on activities centered on energy, aerodynamics, space science, weather and biotechnology The Trailblazer is suitable for all ages but targets 3rd-8th graders The Trailblazer engages students with interactive projects and experiments related to math and science, creates awareness of careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), and provides opportunities to interact with professionals in the community

This program is a collaboration between the Howe Community Library, the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering, and the Tocker Foundation to provide fun summer learning for students primarily in rural areas
