How does Ambien work
Ambien (zolpidem) is a sedative-hypnotic drug used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It works by slowing down activity in the brain and allowing the user to fall asleep more quickly. It also helps to reduce the number of times during the night that the user awakens. Ambien works by binding to the same receptors in the brain as benzodiazepines, which are another class of sleep medications. It increases the activity of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is responsible for reducing activity in the brain and promoting sleep.
