Pasadena, CA (PRWEB) April 19, 2013 -- The manufacturing sector grew in March, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth, according to the ISM report released this month. The manufacturing index registered at 51.3 percent, and the industry’s employment index rose to 54.2 percent, a 1.6 percent increase over the previous month. The ISM report reflected growth in manufacturing employment on Hound.com. The Institute of Supply Management released its Report on Business for March, a monthly report assessing the current economic state of the manufacturing sector. The manufacturing index registered at 51.3 percent, with any reading above 50 percent indicating economic growth. While March’s index was lower than the previous month’s reading, it indicated that the industry was continuing to grow, albeit at a slower pace. Significantly, the manufacturing employment index was at 54.2 percent, a 1.6 percent increase compared to February. The ISM’s monthly indices are the leading indicators of the current state of the manufacturing sector. Taken together, the ISM report painted a picture of a modestly growing industry and improving job prospects. The positive ISM employment index reading reflected current hiring trends on Hound.com, a leading job search website. Hound listed nearly 10,400 manufacturing jobs at the time of this release, with the majority of the demand for production supervisors and manufacturing engineers. Companies hiring in those areas are seeking individuals with a background in manufacturing engineering and assembly line production processes. While very few jobs are created in a vacuum, manufacturing, in particular, is a sector where a strong industry translates into job creation across a whole host of other areas. When manufacturing companies expand, job creation is rarely excluded to employment directly related to manufacturing, but to all related support needed to carry out production of goods. This includes openings in logistics, admin, accounts payable, customer service, and shipping. “The great thing about manufacturing is it really is one of those industries that, when it is experiencing growth, creates a ripple effect for job creation,” said Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound.com. Manufacturing has emerged as one of the bright spots in the job market, and growth in the sector signals that the industrial sector may be strengthening, albeit at a moderate pace. While companies have stepped up their recruitment efforts, many employers are having difficulty finding qualified workers with the right technical training. Automatic spending cuts and tax increases went into effect early this year, putting increased pressure on U.S. companies and leading to fears within the industry that manufacturing companies would have even more of an incentive to bring their businesses overseas. In an effort to counteract this, many states have considered tax incentives to draw in and keep manufacturing companies in the country. These efforts should translate into increased job opportunities within the U.S. About Hound
