mission This forecast has been developed to assist designers and merchants hone in on key themes, colors and silhouettes for the accessory market. It is meant to stir creativity, incite conversation, and instruct development decision-making.
mood | themes State of flux, polarity, contradictions, iconoclastic, and divide have become daily interferences in our lives. They are also key words in trend seminars, books and articles surrounding a perpetual customer mood. Fashion doesn’t avoid the social/political vibes, but rather, it uses world-view as a way to express, to converge, or incite conversation. To find beauty in opposing viewpoints, and ways to unite the conflicting into a new something else. Every season fashion does this aims to reinvent, repurpose, reclaim, and sometimes to reassure. Much like we all are, seeking out what links us, zooming in close enough to see bridges, paths escape, optimism, or hope. Fittingly so, Spring | Summer 2020 is titled: CONNECTION. Every species on earth longs for connection, a tribe, family, friends. However, unique to humanity is that our interactions extend beyond our own kind, or thought. We engage with art, activity, a gadget, anything at all. We have the ability to select, create and invent what we interact with, and to invite others, to participate, document and reflect on these experiences. Our humanity demands more than short-term or surface encounters. It desires internal reflection, companionship, intimacy, common interest, kinship, and/or association. It requires CONNECTION. Ideally, our connections lift us up, elevate us, improve our lives. Our roles as designers must evolve to influencers, providing experiences beyond product and packaging. Evoke a feeling, an outerward expression, an ice-breaker for conversation or maybe the product just does what it says it will. There are six global themes, each familiar on the surface, but each is enhanced, nuanced, presenting a newness and polish that feels “better.” Explore the color ranges within each as a delivery or mesh with another range for interesting color combinations. Overarching themes interconnect in subtle ways with one another, allowing for easy mixing and matching between colors, patterns and silhouettes.
