MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL July 03 - 18

The festival held each July in Switzerland and it is one of the most famous Jazz festivals in the world. Running for over 40 years the festival has seen all the greats from Miles Davis through to Ella Fitzgerald and B.B. King. It’s name is labeled as Jazz festival but any music with a soul will have a stage here. After 1980 jazz remained important, as did Brazilian music, but more and more rock and pop artists were also invited. FIESTA DE SAN FERMIN July 06-14

The festival of San FermĂ­n in the city of Pamplona (Navarre, Spain), is a deeply rooted celebration held annually from 6 July to midnight 14 July, with the singing of the Pobre de MĂ­. The week-long celebration involves many other traditional and folkloric events. The worldwide fame of the modern festival, and the great number of foreign visitors it receives every year. The origin of this event comes from the need to transport the bulls from the off-site corrals where they had spent the night, to the bull ring where they would be killed in the evening. Youngsters would jump among them to show off their bravado. In Pamplona and other places, the six bulls in the event are still those that will feature in the afternoon bullfight of the same day. The running of the bulls involves hundreds of people running in front of six bulls and another six steers down an 825-metre stretch of narrow streets of a section of the old town of Pamplona. FESTIVAL OF GIANTS July 12-14

Giant is the symbol of Douai. Each year for three days at the beginning of July, the Gayant festival takes place. The Gayant family, composed of the giant’s wife Marie Cagenon and their three children, Jacquot, Fillon and Binbin, are carried through the city. On Sunday the largest procession starts from the town hall. Every year at the beginning of July, the elegant pinnacles of Douai’s impressive bell tower look down on the same scene. The town is packed with people jostling to get a good view of the ‘kings’ of the city – the annual outing of the giants, or ‘gayants’ in local dialect. Floats, costumed characters and bands accompany the cavalcade of figures that date back to the Middle Ages.
