Rider benefits: “I find that riding through the winter can be quite demotivating in the dark and cold, so having something short term to focus on after Christmas fills in that long gap before the season starts! Having a BE organised Event held in an indoor environment is a really great solution for that.” On horse benefits: “The intensity of the JAS format, combined with the cross country fence approaches, gives horses something to think about in addition to the showjumping and dressage competitions I tend to do over winter. You and your horse have to be sharp witted to get around while putting in a polished performance to get full ‘Style’ marks, which means that you are focused before you head out to your first one day of the season, rather than using your first outings as a warm-up.” Points mean prizes: “The training vouchers I won at the 2012 Championship were so generous that I was able to have support throughout the season, whenever I have had any issues, without worrying about the cost. This has really helped boost my confidence and my horse’s performance, so I will hopefully come out even stronger in 2013.”
