WHAT IS THE CENSUS? Every 10 years, the federal government is legally required to count every person living in the country, regardless of citizenship status Census is used to determine funding for government programs such as Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), etc. Census data is used to determine the number of seats each state will get in the House of Representatives WHY IS THE CENSUS IMPORTANT FOR THE ASIAN AMERICANS, NATIVE HAWAIIANS, AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS? Roughly 1 in 5 Asian Americans and 1 in 4 NHPIs live in hardto-count areas. AANHPI communities are at risk of being missed especially those individuals with limited English skills and/or are low-income When AANHPI communities are undercounted, it may impact the determination of elected officials to represent the community, allocation of funding, and policy-decision making WHAT CAN YOU DO?
