Hope For New York 25 YEARS OF DOING JUSTICE AND LOVING MERCY IN NEW YORK CITY FY2016 ANNUAL REPORT

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? MICAH 6:8

Letter from the Chief Executive Officer Dear Friend, What is your vision for New York City? At Hope for New York, our vision is a city where all of our neighbors have homes to live in and jobs to support their families. Where all children are provided with the opportunities they need to reach their full potential. Where those who are vulnerable, isolated, marginalized, or exploited experience justice. Ultimately, we want to see a city in which all New Yorkers — every individual, family, and neighborhood — experience economic, social, physical, emotional, and spiritual flourishing through the demonstration of Christ’s love. For the past 25 years, we have been part of a movement of mercy and justice in New York City. Will you join us?

ELISE CHONG

Chief Executive Officer Hope for New York

Our vision is a New York City in which all people experience spiritual, social, and economic flourishing through the demonstration of Christ’s love.

Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and financial resources to support non-profit affiliates serving the poor and marginalized in New York City.

Our model works to strengthen and launch organizations serving the poor and marginalized in New York City.

We partner with local churches who are committed to holistic ministry in both word and deed — sharing the good news of Christ’s love and demonstrating this in practical acts of compassion.

We provide:

“If a person has grasped the meaning of God’s grace in his heart, he will do justice.”

Broken World Injustice is all around us—individuals and systems are broken. Many lack access to resources, others are stuck in cycles of poverty, and others are sick or hopeless or friendless or without a voice.

R E V. T I M O T H Y K E L L E R

Senior Pastor, Redeemer Presbyterian Church

Loving God Because God desires to restore His creation, He cares deeply about those who are poor or marginalized. Jesus embodied this by meeting both spiritual and physical needs— caring for the poor, healing the sick, and advocating for those who were oppressed.

Responsive Church The church is called to respond to God’s love by loving the poor and working for justice. We should be engaged in a holistic ministry of word and deed, sharing the good news of Christ’s love and demonstrating this love in practical acts of compassion.

“ We aspire to not just feed the homeless, but eat with them, talk with them and do life with them. Our goal is to enter a journey with the poor where we aren’t seen as above them, but alongside them. “ It is fulfilling to know that you’ve had a chance to really be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. Don’t feel like your gesture has to be grand. A cup of soup or a smile to someone who hasn’t had a word from another human being for days can mean more than a million dollars.” RACHEL HOCKING
