OUR PRIDE OUR FUTURE Once arguably, the strongest football organization in the world, Budapest Honved has become only a shadow of itself at the time we purchased the club in 2006. Once the best national eleven of the world, the Hungarian national team has become only a caricature of itself by the time we reached the 21st century. The Hungarian Football Academy, founded at the beginning of 2007, was conceived and built to reverse this trend. So far our efforts have been rewarded with great successes. The teams fielded by the Hungarian Football Academy tend to be the best in the country and regularly beat major international competitors in different tournaments. Our youngsters are poised to become players in the Hungarian First Division and major international clubs wish to test our players for their programs also. But our world is more than a school for footballers. It is also an educational institution preparing the youngsters for life and for life after football. Our facilities are world class and so is the education and football training the kids receive. We are proud of them and the wonderful staff that provides the opportunity for their successful future. We thank you for your interest in the Hungarian Football Academy and invite you to visit us at your earliest opportunity. Sincerely, George F. Hemingway

Founder Hungarian Football Academy

Budapest Honvéd FC Honvéd internationally is the best known Hungarian football club, located at the Bozsik Stadium in the 19th district of Budapest. The team has thirteen Hungarian Championship titles and seven Hungarian National Cup victories. In 1959 Honvéd won the Mitropa, which is also known as the Central-European Cup. The club was founded in 1909 and joined the Hungarian First League in 1916 for the first time. The club had two golden eras. The first incredibly successful period was back in the 1950’s when such legendary players played in the club as Ferenc Puskás, Sándor Kocsis, József Bozsik and Zoltán Czibor, referred to as the “Big-Honvéd” by the fans. These players formed the backbone of the legendary Hungarian “Golden Team” (Mighty Magyars), and won the championship four times for Honvéd. The second golden era was in the 1980’s and in the early 1990’s when the team won eight championships. From this era it’s worth to mention the name of Lajos Tichy, the former legendary Honvéd player, who had a big part in this success as a head coach. The backbone of the Hungarian national team was made up of Honvéd players again. From the several excellent players Lajos Détári was the most outstanding, who was a member of the World Select Team, and later had a major international carreer. The Summer of 2006 greeted the start of a completely new era at Honvéd. At that time George F. Hemingway bought the club. The Bozsik Stadium has been renovated and in 2007 the Honvéd’s own academy, the Hungarian Football Academy was founded. The club became successful again.

It won the Hungarian National Cup in 2007 and 2009, participated two times in the UEFA Cup and two times in the Europa League qualifying rounds between 2007 and 2015, and played against opponents like Hamburger SV, Anzhi Makhachkala, and Fenerbahce. The club also participated in the Intertoto Cup in this period. Furthermore, Honvéd acquired a bronz medal in the Hungarian National Championship in the 2012/2013 season. The club’s medium term objective is to develop and build homegrown players, to finish at the 1st-3rd place in the championship, and to participate at the international level every year. The long term objective is to get to the group stage of the Europa League or the Champions League.

Introducing the Hungarian Football Academy The Hungarian Football Academy (HFA) was founded in 2007 with the objective to train players for Honvéd’s first team and to become the most successful youth training center in Hungary within a short time. For this reason, the finest professional staff works at the academy day after day to get the most out of the young football-talents both at the pitch and at the school. Players selected by the club receive both high school education and sport training in a boarding system. The academy provides 2-3 players to the Honvéd’s first team every year. The national and international results of the academy’s teams confirm the success of the institute’s work. Besides many championship titles, the Hungarian Football Academy won the prestigious Puskás-Suzuki Cup four times, ahead of teams like Real Madrid and Panathinaikos. There is a growing demand for the players of the Hungarian Football Academy at the international level also. Several players were sold to clubs in the English, German, Italian and Dutch championships. Furthermore, one of our academy players, Bálint Vécsei played on the Hungarian national team. The academy is constantly developing along a well established strategy. Since the foundation in 2007, the capacity of the dorm and the restaurant has been expanded, the number of the professional and supporting staff has been doubled. Goalkeeper coach, physical conditioning trainer, assistant coaches, medical staff, sport

psychologist and a video analyzer help and support the work of the coaches. We convinced a Dutch coach, Mr. Jasper de Muijnck to take the professional leadership. He works on the coaches’ continuous development. The person, the sport and the education are equally important at the HFA. Complex way of thinking, well-built structure, clear strategy and football philosophy, as well as a crystal-clear vision and sense of mission characterize the academy. SInce the foundation of the Hungarian Football Academy, 27 of its players have had their debut in the first team of Budapest Honvéd FC, and 9 more players in other Hungarian first division clubs. The next step in the life of the HFA is the construction of the new youth complex, which will be the most modern training complex in Hungary. It will provide much better conditions for Honvéd’s academy and for the professional work at the academy.

Honvéd–Macron CuP In the summer of 2015 the HFA’s U18 cup, the Honvéd-Macron Cup has been organized for the fourth time in the Bozsik Stadium. This is one of the most important international youth tournaments in Hungary. The tournament was founded by Budapest Honvéd FC and the Hungarian Football Academy in 2012 to provide an opportunity for 18 year old players to show their talent in a major competition, and to show their development to the international community. Among the permanent participants, there are clubs like West Bromwich Albion, which plays in the English Premier League, or the

Serbian Partizan Beograd. The Danish Aalborg BK also attended several times together with other prestigious European teams. The final and the bronze-medal matches have been broadcast live every time on a national sports channel. From the previous four occasions, in 2013 and 2014 the HFA, in 2012 Partizan Beograd, and in 2015 Aalborg won the cup. The series will of course continue in the forthcoming years too. Our goal is to provide better conditions to the praticipating teams year after year, and constantly raise the level of this prestigious tournament.

PUSKÁS - THE LEGEND Hungary’s, and according to many, the world’s number one football miracle, the Golden Team’s outstanding player, the only Hungarian football player who made a unique international career. He won the European Cup with Real Madrid, and after leaving the Hungarian national team he also played at the Spanish national team. He was born in Kispest, and with the support of his coach-father he started to play for the Kispesti AC, and later he played at Budapest Honvéd (Kispesti AC’s legal successor) until he left the country. In 1945, at the age of 18 he already played for the Hungarian national team. Until 1956 he played 85 games in the national team and scored 84 goals, which is still a Hungarian record. In 1952 he was the captain of the Olympic champion Hungarian team. He was a five time champion with Honvéd, four time top scorer, and he scored 358 goals at 349 championship

games. He scored 154 goals in 179 games as a Real Madrid player. Puskás’ football style was characterized by explosiveness, perfect ballhandling, unreadable dribbling, incredibly witty solutions, excellent situation awareness and brilliant kicking technique. At the time of the 1956 Hungarian revolution, he stayed abroad like many other football players. He wasn’t young, but he was able to switch to the Spanish rhytm. In his 30’s he was able to make a complete renewal and he played like in his younger ages, or sometimes even better. It tells everything about him, that in the Spanish professional football environment he was able to play for almost ten years at a high level, and he retired close to his 40th year. After this he worked as a coach at many places. He led Panathinaikos to a European Cup final. He had done a lot to enhance the reputation of Hungary with his performance. He became one of the most famous Hungarians in the second part of the 20th century. The Puskás Ferenc Foundation was established in 1989, with the priority to support the youth football of Honvéd and Hungary, and to nurture the young talents. According to the namegiver’s intention the foundation established the Puskás Ferenc Award in 1990 to give it young football players with outstanding performance and exemplary behavior, as well as to coaches and professionals, who perform excellent work in the youth football. A few years after his 2006 death, FIFA established the Ferenc Puskás Award to honor the memory of the legendary player, with which they reward the player who scored the most outstanding goal year by year. The award was won by such world class players as C. Ronaldo, Neymar or Ibrahimovic 9

U15 Gรกbor Isa

U15 Head Coach

We are working with a completely new team. Fourteen new players arrived, and ten remained from last season. Our primary task is to bring these boys to the same level. I am completely satisfied with their diligence, attitude and will. From the elements we practice in the trainings, more and more we are seeing in the matches. We mainly focus on individual training in the U15 age group.

14

U16 Tibor Farkas

U16 Head Coach

In this age group we pay attention to team building besides the individual training. We want to raise both to a higher level. The U16 boys just moved into the academy. They have to get used to the atmosphere, combining school with training is a completely new lifestyle, so they have to adjust. A very talented brigade came in. We have several youth national team players, and national team level players.

15

U17 Krisztián Somogyi

U17 Head Coach

Since the players move more and more towards adult football, we have to focus on the team’s success. During preparation for this, the players experience how to win a match and that if the team’s interest is more important than the individual’s. Basically we would like to raise individuals who are able to step over the threshold of the adult team.

16

U19 Csaba T贸th

U19 Head Coach

The goal of the U19 team is to be successful in the championship, but our main target is to give as many players to the first team as we can, or indirectly to the second team. We prepare our players for this. We want to raise players with character who know what they want.

17

We are proud of them:

Dániel Gyollai - Stoke City A very talented goalkeeper who was signed from the HFA to the Stoke City. Now he is a starting player at the English club’s U21 team. Kristopher Vida - De Graafschap The striker, who is fast, strong and dangerous around the goal, played in all the youth national teams beginning with U16.

Bence Bíró - Guimares It tells everything about this tall, well-built striker, that several English teams wanted to take him from the academy.

Erik Bukrán - Hull City Earlier he proved it at Bolton. Many think that he is the most talented Hungarian goalkeeper of the new generation.

Dávid Bobál - Bp. Honvéd FC Exploded to the NBI. in the Summer, and already one of the best central defenders in Hungary. Strong, fast, calm and a good header.

Bálint Vécsei - Bologna The first academy player who played for the adult Hungarian national team. Galatasaray tested him, and Lazio and several famous clubs observed him.

Endre Botka - Bp. Honvéd FC Member of the first national team’s roster, one of the best players of each youth national team.

Gergely Bobál - Wolfsburg One of the most successful players of the PuskásSuzuki Cups, well known in the NBI. Excelled in the youth national teams.

The academy moves to a new place The construction of the HFA Youth Center, which will be Hungary’s most advanced youth establishment, is expected to begin in the spring of 2016 within the framework of a government investment. The international level facility will be the home of Budapest Honvéd’s first division team, and the students of the Hungarian Football Academy. With the construction of the facility it will become possible for the youth players to receive a more complex and high quality professional preparation. On the grounds of the football complex there will be a dorm suitable to place 103 youngsters, offices, other facilities, 7 normal sized football pitches, 4 small artificial grass pitches, grandstands and a running track. There will be modern fitness equipment and rehabilitational devices available in the facility to supplement the professional work. The youth education center, built in an exclusive environment, will effectively contribute to the academy’s more intellectual activities. In the main building of course, there will be a restaurant, conditioning and warm-up rooms, changing rooms for the palyers based on agegroups, offices and changing rooms for the coaches, changing rooms for referees, medical station and treatment rooms, warehouses and cabinets, and of course a place suitable for receiving parents and family members. In the educational wing a dormitory will be placed, where classrooms, the players’ bedrooms, and common rooms will be found.
