Co-opportunities: mEMBER-oWNER by Yevette Buddeau,

Member-Owner Coordinator (MOC) The month of spring is here! Days get longer, temperatures increase, and optimism is in the air with the early chirping birds. Come get your hours in at the Co-op during March and be ready for Board of Directors elections at April’s Membership Meeting. All hours and payments must be up to date by March 31 in order to be eligible to vote at the April 25 Membership Meeting. Owners who attend the Membership Meeting but are not up to date on hours and payments will receive hours for attending but will not be eligible to have their vote counted. Take your participation to the next level and run for the Board of Directors! Nominations open April 1. Come get involved—know your Co-op, uphold cooperative principles and values, and co-create positive outcomes for our community. Get involved in governance at the Co-op. Here’s why this matters to me. You know we’re a cooperative, a grocery store, AND a community, right? While we say and hear these facts often, and we hear about voting and Membership Meetings regularly, we may hope that someone is doing the job of steering the ship. WE’RE steering the ship! Our relationships with the local community, our staff, our Membership, and vendors are all on the table for constant collaboration

Bylaws Panel (BLP) ∙ Discussed actions necessary prior to BLP’s proposed amendments presentation at April MM (preparing side-by-side comparison document; soliciting comments from BOD, MC, GRC; scheduling and conducting Membership information sessions). ∙ Reviewed entirety of Section 471 (sets forth BLP purpose, responsibilities, structure, process). Discussed/edited draft rewrite with goals of completing in March and presenting proposed amendments at May MM. ∙ Requested BOD provide comments on sideby-side document showing current language, proposed amendment (to parts of Sections 420, 470.2), and rationale for modifications.

and defining. The Co-op’s direction at any given time is intimately related to the voices at the table. Bring yours. Local is where we spend our dollars and where we pour our hearts. Find committee meeting details and governance details on our website, or reach out to Yevette at memberservices@ honestweight.coop. Care to share why local and cooperative matter to you? Write to honestslate@honestweight.coop. Looking for ways to get those hours in? We have evening customer service shifts in the Meat and Seafood Department to straighten shelves and direct customers. No cutting or weighing is involved in this position as the need is for sales floor support; contact StephenQ@honestweight.coop. The Deli Front of House is looking for Member-Owners to come in weekly; shifts are available Tuesdays–Saturdays 10am–1pm and 5–8 pm; contact MeaghanM@honestweight.coop. Tasks include helping package and label all the items on the Grab ‘n Go wall and prepping items for sandwiches. We’re still counting customers, making sure the shopping carts are collected at the front of the store, and need people to help with these interactive outdoor tasks. We have 11am–6pm shifts available on Thursdays and Sundays, and 3–6 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Contact DanH@honestweight.coop.

With heavy hearts, we would like to send condolences and care to the family and friends of Karen Galough, who passed away in late February. Over the years, Karen helped out in multiple departments including the Front End and Grocery, and she was a knowledgeable and upbeat member of our shopper helper team at the Co-op. Watch for her obituary online.

Seeking MOs to Join Our Membership Committee The Membership Committee (MC) seeks input and new members. The committee meets virtually every second Monday. MOs are welcome to attend the 5:30–5:45 open comment period; email for the Zoom link. Do you have time, talent, and desire to be on the Membership Committee? This committee works primarily online and needs MOs in good standing who are tech-savvy collaborators to promote an equitable Coop, follow through and complete monthly items, and attend Membership Committee and general Membership Meetings. Email address below if interested in earning hours as a committee member.
