HEALTH & BEAUTY SMOKERS WARNED THEY COULD BE UNINSURED Insurers are urging smokers to ensure they have declared their smoking habit on their life insurance, however casual it may be. It follows a spate of recent cases reported in the press where insurance companies have refused to pay up on life insurance policies where they subsequently discovered the insured had not been a non-smoker as declared on their application form. In one case, the post-mortem results showed the insured had a casual smoking habit, enough for the insurance company concerned to reject the claim on the policy. “Declaring you smoke will inevitably increase the premiums but better than paying for a worthless policy that could leave dependents without any compensation” stated an insurance industry spokesperson.

HEALTHY DIET ESSENTIAL Research of recent independent studies from the US suggest that dieters who lose weight by using diet pills are far less likely to maintain any weight loss when compared to dieters who lose weight through diet and exercise alone. Whilst weight loss pills do require an individual to modify their diet and exercise regime, the research concluded that the pills

do not promote long term healthy eating habits and pill takers find it difficult to keep their weight off as and when they reach their desired goal. The vast majority of nutritionists strongly recommend that individuals participate in diets that focus on an overall healthy lifestyle, something that will ensure any diet pills taken act as effectively as possible.

HAVE A SIX WEEK BREAK FROM SUGAR Celebrity TV cook Delia Smith has reiterated her claims that obesity stems from addiction to sugar through not eating square meals. People start to rely on snacking on sugar rich foods such as chocolate which turns into an addiction that leads to significant weight gain. “To cure yourself, you need to have six weeks without either sugar or sweetener” says Delia. “You should only have natural sugars, such as in fruit and wine.

After six weeks, everything will taste sweet, things like milk, because you will have got your palate back to what nature created. We could cure the nation if we cut down sugar addiction”. Obesity experts agree that the six week break from sugar and sweeteners could have a beneficial effect on diet but disagree strongly with using the word addiction.
