Standardised methodologies use the raw data from products, components, processes and whole buildings to produce comparable data sets which can inform decision making in their own right. Once these data sets have been created, a range of design tools can be developed to evaluate the impact of design choices on whole life carbon emissions, e.g. whether to use a steel or wooden frame in a building.
