The story of dBodhi
We are craftsmen with a deep appreciation for nature. For us, nature is not just beautiful, it is everything. It is the origin of all creation and the source of our inspiration. When we create furniture, we look for the best possible harmony between culture and nature, harnessing the art of craftsmanship to honor them both.
We use reclaimed and organic materials, following ancient knowledge and Javanese traditions to produce unique and high quality pieces, each with their own story.

Reclaimed Teak
Our reclaimed teak wood is sourced from century-old houses from remote villages in East Java, before being repurposed and crafted into new pieces of furniture. The rustic wood comes from mature trees over sixty years old and is of very high quality. Repurposing the wood is an elaborate process.
Our craftsmen receive the wooden slats in all sizes and conditions, often with original nails and paint still in place. After hand sorting the wood, they manually sand and rework each piece. Packed with history, the wood is full of character, with unique and elegant textures that can never be reproduced or imitated by newly cut wood.

The collection’s iconic tables are all entirely made of certified, solid reclaimed teak wood of high quality, sourced from century-old houses from remote villages in East Java. Standout design features include the distinctive joineries on the legs, which are inspired by a traditional Javanese house construction system called ‘Purus’, in which wooden joints are carefully fitted together in an artisanal way.

Handcrafted Coco
Due to its endless options for use, the coconut tree is also referred to as ‘the tree of life’.
For our special coco weaves, local Javanese crafters use the strong middle of the leaves of the coconut palm.
Processing this sustainable material is not easy, and the weaving of the midribs requires a level of accuracy and tenacity that only skilled crafters can provide. After cutting down the palm leaves, the midribs are carefully removed and put to dry.

After cleaning and handpicking the good ones, the thin twigs are spun together with yarn on a traditional loom that is manually operated by our craftsmen.

The shape of the iron frame is crafted by hand by our skilled craftsmen. The tabletops are made from solid reclaimed teak wood in natural color, processed and treated with care to keep the natural textures of the rustic wood intact.

Handwoven Banana
The weaving of banana bark is traditionally done by local crafters from small villages on Java.
Banana bark as a raw material is incredibly durable and sustainable: as banana trees bear fruit only once per lifetime, they are often cut down and discarded right after bearing fruit. Instead of discarding them after flowering, our craftsmen cut the banana bark down and take the pieces off to dry. After drying, our craftspeople use different traditional techniques to braid or hand weave the pieces of barks into beautiful items.

Handwoven Abaca
The banana-related abaca plant is valued for its exceptional strength and flexibility.
Considered the strongest of natural fibers and very eco-friendly, abaca is named by the United Nations as ‘Future Fiber’.
Harvesting and processing the raw material is a labor-intensive job. After blossoming, the abaca is cut down and the fiberbearing stalk is cut into strips of fiber, which are scraped to remove pulp.
After washing and drying them, our craftsmen use different traditional techniques to braid or hand weave the fibers into beautiful sustainable items of a very high quality.

Handwelded Iron
For the crafting of our iron frames, we work with local Javanese suppliers who shape the iron by hand in their workshops.
To create the pipe shapes of our frames and join the parts together, they need to manually weld the iron. When the desired shape is created, the iron is sanded by hand, to reach a nice and smooth surface. After being smoothened, the parts are treated to prevent the frame from staining and colored with an ecofriendly finish to give the iron that extra luxurious look.

Sustainably harvested from natural forests in Indonesia, our certified high-quality rattan is very durable.
See how it’s made
Although rattan might be easier to grow and harvest than timber, processing the material is equally labor-intensive. After the canes are cut, they need to be dried, cleaned, and the husk and thorns peeled off. The rattan is then cut into the right size and sprayed with ecofriendly finishing. Our skilled crafters completely weave the rattan by hand, using various techniques, depending on the type of braid. An anti-bacterial treatment is applied with a kiln dry machine, to make the rattan better and longer lasting.
