Do you love to draw and design? Do you think in pictures? Do you want to make your living being paid to be creative in visual arts—but aren’t sure which career is right for you?
The Graphic Design program offers you all the excitement and challenges a job in design brings. Through exposure to a wide variety of ideas, projects and media, you will leave the program with a solid portfolio and a skill set that will benefit you throughout your career. You will be introduced to the history of graphic design, creative problem solving, illustration, expressive typography, prepress, print production, web design, and project management.
In this foundation program, you’ll try your hand at a variety of different skills to find out where your strengths lie. By the time you graduate, you’ll have a strong portfolio ready to apply for one of our two-year School of Visual Arts programs: Video Game Art and Animation, Graphic Design, and Photography and Digital Imaging. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS §§ Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level §§ Portfolio of five to six pieces of your best artwork. This portfolio should include some colour work and some observational drawing. (The portfolio will only be kept by Admissions for one year. Students will be contacted to make arrangements for pick up or delivery.) §§ A 500-word essay describing your artistic journey so far and your goals and aspirations for the future §§ Resumé

We emphasize the establishment of strong visual communication and design skills. You will build a strong technical foundation and be able to explore areas that personally interest you. This, coupled with exposure to the most current hardware and software available, will prepare you to meet industry needs. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS §§ Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level §§ Grade 12 English, minimum of 60% §§ Submission of portfolio – see website for portfolio requirements.
