So you are literally bringing back the art into the Berliner fashion. What do you especially like about this city? The most beautiful thing about Berlin are its people. Especially the more wealthy women: We have so many elder Berliner ladies that have style, they are dressed beautifully and they smell lovely. They are so open minded. So honest. Many cannot really appreciate the Berliner, they feel they are loud, cheeky and bad-tempered. But they are not like that. On top of that I like Berlin especially for its architecture. All these diverse buildings in this city. You find that rarely.
Das hat man selten. Du hast schon öfter für Magazine Kleider gefertigt. Warum muss es immer etwas besonders Extravagantes sein? Für Magazine mache ich ausschließlich nicht tragbare Haute Couture! Mein magischer Moment war mein damaliges Prüfungskleid. Es war 2,70 m lang, das Model musste auf einer kleinen Leiter stehen. Da beschloss ich: in meinem Atelier werden nur „nicht tragbare Kleider“ entstehen! Viele Frauen sehen meine Kleider und wollen sie haben. Das heißt, jemand sieht dein Kleid und möchte dieses Kleid haben, egal was es kostet? Ja, ganz oft. Viele habe ich aber einfach verschenkt. An Prominente, Schauspielerinnen oder Topmodels, wie Tony Garrn oder Julia Stegner! Sie haben Kleider bei mir gesehen und gesagt: „Ich werde diesen Raum nicht ohne dieses Kleid verlassen!“ Ich kann sie dann natürlich tragbar machen, indem ich es einfach kürze und entsprechend anpasse. Und diese Frauen tragen meine Kleider schon - und das macht mich stolz.
You have already designed a few dresses for magazines. Why does it always have to be something especially extravagant? For magazines I exclusively create unwearable Haute Couture! My magical moment was my dress for my final exam. It was 2,70 metres long, the model needed to stand on a small ladder. That when I decided: In my atelier will only be created “unwearable dresses”! Many women see my dresses and want to have them.
Dann hast du doch gemerkt, dass du mit deinen Kleidern Geld verdienen kannst?! Ja sicher. Aber, ich verschenke sie lieber. Geld ist nicht das Wichtigste für mich. Mein Kleid an einer tollen Frau zu sehen, dass reicht mir momentan! Ich verkaufe meine Kleider erst, wenn ich im nächsten Jahr mein eigenes Atelier eröffne! Solange ich noch freiberuflich unterwegs bin, mache ich mir erstmal einen Namen. Bis dahin ist es mir egal, ob ich dafür Geld bekomme oder nicht!
That means, that somebody sees your dress and wants to have it, no matter how much it costs? Yes, very often. But I have also given away many dresses as a present. To celebrities, actresses odr top models such as Tony Garrn or Julia Stegner! They saw my dresses at my place and said: “I won’t leave this place without this dress!” I can then make them wearable by shortening them and fitting them. And these women are already wearing my dresses which makes me very proud.
Wie kam dir die Idee zu diesem Kleid hier in unserer Ausgabe? Das wirklich Besondere an diesem Kleid war, dass ich davon geträumt habe. Ich saß an einem Fluss in Israel, und darin schwammen farbige Diamanten. Königsblaues Wasser und glitzernde Steine. Ich habe in diesem Traum meinem verstorbenen Vater getroffen. Als ich später aufgestanden bin, war das Kleid die ganze Zeit vor meinen Augen - egal, wo ich hinsah - das Kleid war immer da! Ich habe mich dann dafür entschieden, es komplett aus königsblauer
Then you have realised that you can earn some money with you dresses?! Yes, of course. But, I prefer to give them away as a present. Money is not the most important for me. To see my dress on a beautiful woman is enough for me right now. I will only sell my dresses when I will open my new atelier next year. As long as I walk around as a freelancer, I prefer to establish a name for myself. Till then I don’t really care if I get money for it or not! 140
