fleeto by paddy cunneen

Holden Street Theatres & Tumult in The Clouds / United kingdom

WINNER 2011 Holden Street Theatres Edinburgh Fringe Award British Theatre Guide When his friend is stabbed, a young lad falls in with a gang. The terrible revenge he takes brings disaster on himself and the victim’s family. Inspired by ‘The Iliad’ and Glasgow’s ‘knife culture’, Fleeto is a hard-hitting, contemporary Scottish re-invention of the classic Greek tragic form. Performed in a stunningly rich, flexible Shakespearian style verse. Compelling, thought provoking and deeply moving.

“powerful and beautifully - produced… stunningly fine.” Joyce McMillan, Scotsman

“Modern theatre at its very best.” ONE4REVIEW

“Magical, this is what storytelling should be.” Fringe Review

Puppetry, live music, performance, storytelling and physicality blends into a highly sensory theatrical feast suitable for big kids and small grown-ups, featuring narration from Dame Judi Dench. Meet Tumb, the boy who eats his mum, Thingummyboy, with a face even his mother forgets, Little Linena, the material girl, Manky Mingus and of course little Tilly and her terrible tail. Roald Dahl meets Tim Burton in this hugely theatrical, scary, funny, sad, silly, junk-filled, puppetry packed, dark, delicious, musical, magical piece of performance.

Welcome to Rough Trade, the show where savagery, the commodified body and identity intertwine, in the glorious name of Reality Entertainment. Four sadistically sexy individuals are pitted against each other in a sordid spectacle designed especially for your viewing pleasure. Don’t be fooled by their pretty, painted faces: these kitties have claws. Rated – MA 15+

A physical comedy about the power of a squids imagination starring Trygve Wakenshaw. What sets us apart from animals, is our imagination. It’s about playing games, making (up) friends, playing hard and getting tangled in the rules. There’s no right or wrong, only fun or rules. An optimistic Journey through the playground of dreams.

who are weslo & why do they have a guide? 1964, when presenting Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee in the old Thebby Town Hall – two student friends from the University Jazz Band, Bob Lott & Jerry Wesley-Smith, decided to form a company called Weslo – “Wesley-Smith” & “Lott”. Then in the early/mid ‘60s folk boom, they managed the Wesley Three, Patsy Biscoe, Roger Cardwell, Doug Ashdown, Tina Lawton, & others. Then later Zoot, James Wright, Jerry WesleySmith & the Campus Six, Coloured Rain & Harmonie. In ‘66 Weslo, the Princeton Club & Garry Killington formed the Central Booking Agency & booked 95% + entertainment for ALL concerts, dances, nightclubs, TV & private parties & clubs in SA. Weslo formed the Sphere Organisation with Dave Turner Enterprises in the ‘70s & presented major concert events like “Australian Music to the World” & managed Cold Chisel & other successful national groups. Jerry bowed out of Weslo but the name remained. Weslo Holdings took the leasehold & refurbishment of Thebarton Theatre & Robbie Robertson became a full partner. Companies bearing the Weslo name have (amongst other things) continued their leasehold with Thebarton Theatre & have a leasehold and supportive management role with Holden Street Theatres. It owns the majority of Venue*Tix – the company which manages more ticket sales in SA than any other ticketing company and Weslo Staff – the company which supplies staff, cash reconciliation, security, ATMs and gate entry systems to most major events and venues in SA. Jerry Wesley-Smith passed away in 2007.
