Ways of Giving to Hofstra We strive to make giving to Hofstra University as convenient as possible for you. Please visit our website, hofstra.edu/giving, for more information regarding the various ways to give and to make a gift today.
Gifts of Cash Gifts of cash are the easiest and most direct way to give to Hofstra and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Gifts of cash can be made online by using a credit card through our secure website or by sending a check, made payable to Hofstra University, to the Office for Development and Alumni Affairs.
Matching Gifts You may be able to double or even triple the amount of your gift to Hofstra if you work for an organization that matches your gift. Please inquire with your human resources department or visit hofstra.edu/matching to see if your organization is listed as a participant.
Gifts of Securities A gift of appreciated securities, such as stocks or bonds, can provide exceptional tax savings on capital gains, in addition to the income tax deduction associated with a charitable donation. The easiest way to donate a security is by electronic transfer from your broker to Hofstra’s account. For transaction information, please contact us.
Deferred Gifts Another way to establish an endowment or to make an annual gift is through a bequest or deferred gift. For more information on bequests, donating life insurance, or how to establish a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity, please contact us.
Gift-in-Kind An additional way of contributing to Hofstra is through our gift-in-kind program. A gift-in-kind is typically in the form of artwork, furniture, books, paintings, or other property which you, as the donor, may give to the University and, in return, receive a charitable deduction for the value of the article. It is the responsibility of the donor to secure an official appraisal for the fair market value of the item to be donated.
Payroll Deduction Hofstra faculty and staff can also make a gift through payroll deduction.
