The score continues all summer with engaging classes like Magic Tree House: Mozart and the Magic Flute, Homemade Musical Instruments, Stop Motion Rocks, and Musical Magnets. Earn prizes for reading, attending free concerts or outdoor movies, learning to play an instrument (perhaps a ukulele from our collection!), or other activities. On Saturday, June 16, share a meal and engage in heartfelt conversations aimed at breaking divides and building relationships at The Longest Table 2018 (p. 5). We provide the dinner; you provide the conversation. Young, scrappy, and hungry fans will be thrilled to meet bestselling author Stephanie Dray on Thursday, July 26 at Miller Branch (p. 5) as she discusses her newest book, My Dear Hamilton, the epic story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton. Haunting, moving, and beautifully written, Dray and her coauthor Laura Kamoie used thousands of letters and original sources to tell Eliza’s story as it’s never been told before. As summer winds down and we prepare for the start of a new school year, incoming kindergarteners won’t want to miss Kindergarten, Here We Come! Part of A+ Partners in Education, this popular class teaches children (and their anxious parents) what to expect in their first year of school, building excitement and soothing nerves (students even practice boarding a real school bus!). Similarly, Movin’ Up to Middle School offers rising sixth graders handy tips, locker combination time trials, and the opportunity to meet new friends. (p. 6) Whatever you do and wherever you go this summer, take us with you when you download eBooks or stream music and movies. Check out our extensive HCLS Now! collection before heading out. And don’t forget to log your books and activities at hclibrary.beanstack.org as part of our #100K Books Challenge. Help us rock and roll to reach our goal of reading 100,000 books this year!
