Hockaday Welcomes New Trustees The Hockaday School Board of Trustees welcomes eight new members this fall. Carrie Moore Becker ’89 Carrie Moore Becker joins the Hockaday Board of Trustees as President-Elect of the Alumnae Association. Carrie is an active alumna and has served in many leadership roles including 2007 Alumnae Day Chair, 2009 HAARTS Chair, and 2009 Board of Visitors member. Carrie graduated from Georgetown University and received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. While based in New York, Carrie worked at Good Morning America/ABC News and after business school joined the institutional equity sales group at JP Morgan Chase. Carrie is active with the Dallas Museum of Art and served as Forum Chair for 2011–2012. She is also a member of the Dallas Museum of Art Development Committee. Carrie’s extensive Hockaday family connections include her grandmothers, May Beth Thompson Moore ’29 and Shirley Lege Carpenter ’31, her mother Shirley Carpenter Moore ’57, and sister Gwen Moore Holliday ’86. Carrie and her husband, Steven, have two daughters, Ivy (Class of 2020) and Gwendolyn, and a son, Roome (ESD).

Lyda Hill ’60 Lyda Hill is a businesswoman, philanthropist, and environmentalist. She is the Founder and President of LH Holdings, a private investment company in Dallas. Lyda graduated from Hollins College with a B.A. in mathematics. She has been a member of numerous non-profit boards and currently serves as a board member of M.D. Anderson Board of Visitors, Garden of the Gods Foundation, and the Junior League of Dallas Endowment Fund. Prior board leadership includes Chairman of the Dallas and Texas Chapters of the American Heart Association, Chairman of the Easter Seal Society for Children, President of the Junior League of Dallas, President of the Women’s Texas Golf Association, and Chairman of the World President’s Organization of Dallas. Lyda is the recipient of numerous philanthropic honors including the Junior League of Dallas Lifetime Achievement Award, Hollins University Outstanding Alumnae, Volunteer Center of Dallas Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Komen Foundation’s Philanthropy Award.
Casey McManemin
Nicholas “Nick” Merrick
Casey McManemin is co-founder and CEO of Dorchester Minerals LP, a publicly traded oil and gas company. Casey served on Hockaday’s Long Range Planning Committee and the 2010 Head of School Search Committee.
Nick Merrick is the President of Mt. Vernon Investments LLC, an investment company with over $1 billion in assets. Prior to Mt. Vernon Investments, Mr. Merrick was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Excel Communications Inc. He served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Telco Communications Group, and was also Vice President of Corporate Finance at RobinsonHumphrey Company, Inc. where he managed a $26.5 million equity fund. Nick has served on Hockaday’s Investment Committee since 2011.
Casey is a graduate of St. Mark’s School of Texas where he continues to serve as a Trustee. After St. Mark’s he received a B.S. degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University. Casey also serves as an Advisory Trustee of the Telluride Mountain School. Casey and his wife, Megan, have three daughters, Audrey (Class of 2017), Hayes (Class of 2015), and Ryan (University of Georgia).
Nick graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. degree in commerce and received an M.B.A. from Harvard University. He served on the Board of Trustees for Providence Christian School of Texas and is the President of the Merrick Family Foundation. Nick and his wife, Leslie, have four children, Margaret (Class of 2013), Matthew (Cistercian), Catherine (Providence), and Andrew (Preston Hollow Presbyterian).
Named a Hockaday Medal recipient in 1986, Lyda continues to invite Hockaday students to visit her world-renowned mineral collection. Over 165 girls visited her collection this year, with more planning to visit during the next school year.
