Endowment Funds An endowment is a permanent fund invested to assure Hockaday’s financial security for years to come. As of June 30, 2010, Hockaday’s endowment totaled $100.2 million. We are grateful to all our endowment donors. Below are descriptions of the more than 100 Hockaday endowments with a value of $100,000 or more as of June 30, 2010. General Endowment Funds The Elizabeth Mayer Boeckman ’50 General Endowment Fund Established in 2000 with a gift from the Frederick and Mildred Mayer Foundation, The Elizabeth Mayer Boeckman ’50 General Endowment Fund honors Kathryn Boeckman Howd ’75 and Caroline Boeckman ’79. The Effie and Wofford Cain Foundation Endowed Fund Established in 1983 with a grant from the Foundation, the Fund supports general purposes. The Clara R. and Leo F. Corrigan Foundation Endowment Fund Established in 1979 with a grant from the Foundation, the Fund supports general purposes and honors the Corrigan family whose association with Hockaday spans three generations. Louise Corrigan Jordan ’35 is the mother of Anne Jordan Logan ’63 and the grandmother of Claire Jordan ’01. Mr. and Mrs. Leo F. Corrigan, Jr. (Marilyn Ray ’47) are the parents of Catherine Corrigan ’79. The Jeannette Eppler General Endowment Fund Established in 2004 by Mrs. William B. Eppler, mother of Jennifer Eppler Long ’74 and Gretchen Eppler ’78, the Jeannette Eppler General Endowment Fund supports excellence in education at The Hockaday School. The Dr. and Mrs. William B. Heroy, Jr. Endowment Fund Established in 1981 by Dr. and Mrs. Heroy, parents of Barbara Heroy John ’73, the Fund supports general purposes. Dr. Heroy served as a Trustee of the School from 1969 to 1976. The Elizabeth B. Higginbotham Endowment Fund This Fund, which supports general purposes, was established in 1976 by Mrs. Joseph L. Higginbotham, the first woman to serve as Chairman of the Hockaday Board of Trustees, on which she served from 1968 to 1975. Mrs. Higginbotham was a Life Trustee of the School, an Honorary Alumna, and the mother of four Hockaday graduates: Jane Higginbotham Bayes ’56, Ellen Higginbotham Rogers ’59 (also a Life Trustee), Marian Higginbotham Niles ’62, and Harriet Higginbotham Stoneham ’66. Her granddaughter, Katherine Rogers Roberts, is a member of the Class of 1989 and great-granddaughter, Alice Goodrich Roberts, is a member of the Class of 2020. The Hockaday Alumnae Association Endowment Fund Established in 1964 by the Board of the Hockaday Alumnae Association, the Fund initiated Hockaday’s endowment. The Mary O’Boyle Endowment Fund Established in 1982 by Mary O’Boyle, a Trustee of the School from 1981 to 1987, a member of the Class of 1970, and the mother of Abigail English ’00 and Tess English ’06, the Fund supports general purposes, especially financial aid. The Lacerte General Endowment Fund Established in 1998 and augmented in 2006 by Joyce and Lawrence Lacerte, parents of Megan ’02, Madison ’06, Monroe ’07 and Quincy ’08 Lacerte, The Lacerte Endowment Fund supports Hockaday’s hockaday magazine – Fall 2010 70
technology needs. Proceeds from the Fund are used to fund technology infrastructure costs and to provide technology training for Hockaday faculty and staff. The Elizabeth Hudson Penn Endowment Fund Established in 1974 by Mrs. Penn, mother of Nancy Penn Penson ’41, grandmother of Annie Penson Sheegog ’64, Suki Penson Jarzemsky ’65, and Read Penson Gendler ’70, and great-grandmother of Lizzie Gendler ’01 and Hilary Vreeland ’05, the Fund supports general purposes. The Mr. and Mrs. H. Ross Perot Endowment Fund Established in 1981 by Mr. and Mrs. Perot, the Fund supports general purposes. Life Trustee Margot Perot served as Chair of the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1984. Four Perot daughters are Hockaday graduates: Nancy Perot Mulford ’78, Suzanne Perot McGee ’82, Carolyn Perot Rathjen ’86, and Katherine Perot ’89. The Ashley H. Priddy Endowment Fund Established in 1981 to help maintain Hockaday’s excellence for future generations by Ashley H. Priddy, Trustee of the School from 1966 to 1977 and Chairman of the Board from 1974 to 1977, this Fund honors one of the School’s most beloved friends and benefactors, husband of Life Trustee Kathryn Priddy, father of former Trustee Betty Priddy Walker ’69 and Ann Priddy Bentley ’73, and grandfather of Kathryn Walker Francis ’94, Caroline Walker ’98, Ashley Walker ’05, Elizabeth Ann Bentley ’10 and Virginia Draper Bentley, Class of 2011, and greatgrandfather of Ashley Francis, Class of 2024. The Frances Moss Ryburn Memorial Endowment Fund Established in 1973 by the Harry S. Moss Foundation, the Fund honors the memory of Frances Moss Ryburn, a member of the Prep School Class of 1933 and the Junior College Class of 1935, who served as Treasurer of the Hockaday Board of Trustees in 1939 to 1940. Her father, Harry S. Moss, was a Trustee of the School from 1943 to 1956. The Sabine Corporation Endowment Fund Established in 1982 with a grant from the Corporation, the Fund supports general purposes. The Peggy and Carl Sewell Endowment Fund Established in 1996, the Fund supports the continued strength of Hockaday’s mission: to provide the best education possible for girls who will become leaders in their communities. By supporting general purposes, the Fund is intended to help provide the financial basis the School needs to achieve its goals in the future. Peggy Sewell served as a Trustee of Hockaday from 1993 to 1999; she and her husband Carl are the parents of Jacquelin Sewell ’99. The Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sharp Endowment Fund The Fund, established in 1976, supports general purposes. Ruth Sharp Altshuler was a member of the Hockaday Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1980. She was elected Life Trustee in 1992 and was named an Honorary Alumna in 1999. Her daughters are Sally Sharp Harris ’66 and Susan Sharp ’77. Her granddaughter is Elena Jacobson DeLeonardis ’95.
