Summer Dance at Hochstein
Hochstein’s dance philosophy places emphasis on the educational experience and the joy of dance. The program offers a full range of sequential, guided instruction, and students are instructed in proper technique and are grounded in a strong technical foundation. With an emphasis on nurturing the whole dancer, our professional faculty works with each student to develop confidence and creativity as well as technical and performance skills. Hochstein’s unique program offers each student the ability to expand their training with a full range of dance genres. From Ballet to Modern, Tap to Flamenco, Hip Hop and more, there is something for everyone to dip his or her toes into at Hochstein!

mini-danCerS Lauren Tenney, Instructor Tuesdays, 4:15-5:00 pm or Wednesdays, 5:15-6:00 pm ages 3-4
Girls and boys will have a blast (and blow off steam!) in this fun introduction to the world of ballet and creative dance! Through the use of games and songs, our Mini-Dancers will learn the names of arm and leg positions, as well as movements such as tendu, plié, relevé, and passé.

This class is designed to foster interest in pursuing more advanced ballet technique. Children will learn introductory ballet technique as well as body awareness and movement exploration through age-appropriate games and exercises.
Ballet ia, iB/iia ComBined:

ages 7-12
Develop coordination, grace, musicality, flexibility, and balance in this sequential program. Basic ballet technique and vocabulary will be introduced as well as barre work, adagio and allegro movements, and dancing in unison.
NOTE: Continuing students with more experience should register for the Wednesday 6:00 pm section (2019-2020 class participants, talk to your teacher about appropriate placement).

Ballet iii/iV
Diane Lewis, Instructor Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30-7:00 pm ages 13+ (or by instructor permission)
Continuing focus on the Russian (Vaganova) Technique at a more advanced level. It is recommended that students take both classes of Ballet III/IV each week in order to experience a higher level of achievement.
pointe & VariationS Diane Lewis, Instructor Thursdays, 7:15-8:15 pm ages 13+ (or by instructor permission)
Students who are technically capable and physically developed have the option of participating in Pointe class as part of their Vaganova training. The Pointe & Variations class will focuses on developing the coordination, muscular strength, and placement for pointe work. Emphasis is placed on the proper foot, body alignment, and core strength needed to safely and successfully dance “en pointe.” The class consists of beginning and intermediate pointe technique by incorporating exercises at barre and center. Center work includes intermediate combinations and repertoire from traditional and original ballets (variations). Once students have acquired strength and technical proficiency, they are allowed to take the class en pointe.

Explore folk dance and classical ballet as drawn from the old story ballets such as The Nutcracker and Coppelia. Dances covered will include mazurkas, czardas, and polonaises. Character shoes and skirts suggested but not required.
Beginning/intermediate Ballet Diane Lewis, Instructor Tuesdays, 7:15-8:45 pm ages 13-adult
This class introduces students to the basics of the Russian (Vaganova) Ballet Technique through barre work, preparation for pirouettes, adagios, and allegro movements. Also covered are the basics of ballet vocabulary and technique. Great for developing flexibility, strength, coordination, musicality, and grace.
