Are you ready for Summer 2021? Those of us in the Recreation Department sure are! Since the last issue of The Guide was published in Summer 2020, our community and country have been through some incredibly challenging times created by the COVID-19 pandemic. I hope that you, your family, and loved ones have weathered the storm that this pandemic created.
Last summer, you will recall that our three seasonal pools and all five splash pads never opened due to Public Health Orders. That is set to change for Summer 2021. Be sure to check out the information in The Guide related to our pools and splash pads. Please be aware that capacity at our pools is limited to 75% as The Guide went to print with Lea County in Turquoise status.

The prohibition on playing competitive games, which was in place last summer, has been lifted and I suspect that participation in both the Summer Sports and Summer Recess programs will rebound. Last summer our staff did an excellent job of insuring the health and safety of all participants at our Summer Sports and Summer Recess sites, and we are going to make those same efforts again this summer.
One of the most exciting changes you will notice for the Summer 2021 is that swim lessons are returning to Humble Pool. While the last of the four sessions will be held at the CORE, the first three sessions will take place at Humble Pool. Any changes in future Public Health Orders could affect operations at our pools, splash pads, and summer programs. While we hope this is not the case, rest assured that we will operate each of our facilities, programs, activities, and events in a manner that keeps both staff and participants safe.
Come out and join us this summer at the CORE, Senior Center, Teen Center, Rockwind Community Links, one of our pools/splash pads, or any of the Recreation Department’s summer activities. We look forward to having you back!
