Hoag takes pride in training the next generation of orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians by offering some of the most preeminent and highly sought-after orthopedic fellowship programs in the country. Specialties include: Adult Reconstruction and Total Joint Replacement, Surgical Spine and Sports Medicine. For aspiring health care administrators, the Health Policy & Management Fellowship provides valuable administrative experience in the clinical environment for better outcomes and enhanced delivery of care.

Hoag Orthopedics’ commitment to clinical research is evidenced by over 50 active research studies, including eight industry-sponsored clinical trials. Through investigational medical devices and drug development, Hoag is making groundbreaking advancements in orthopedic medicine for the health of the community.

Research projects conducted by fellows have included studies on: the effectiveness of non-surgical treatment for painful shoulder conditions; Hoag’s superior outcomes following total hip arthroplasty; and programs to reduce opioid risks and implement proper disposal protocols.

Community Outreach

Providing professional mentorship and educational opportunities to young people in the community is one of Hoag Orthopedics’ leading values. Hoag physicians partner with local schools and universities in the classroom and on the sidelines to provide students with firsthand knowledge of orthopedic careers and pathways to success in medicine.

Hoag physicians serve as team doctors for high schools throughout Orange County.

Internship programs in affiliation with the University of California, Irvine provide educational opportunities to undergraduate students.

Research positions for new college graduates offer professional experience and mentorship prior to pursuing medical school.

A rarity in the community hospital setting, Hoag’s philanthropically-funded endowed chair program provides physicians with a sustainable source of funding for program development, technology implementation, research, education and more. At Hoag Orthopedics, endowed chair holders play a crucial role in leading Hoag’s fellowship program and supporting fellows throughout the year.
