Overview of Philanthropic Opportunities

Prepared for the Lawrence Family

A Legacy of Family Philanthropy at Hoag

In 1950, the Hoag family made a transformational gift to establish Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach. As Hoag has grown over the past 70 years—from one hospital location into a world-class health care system made up of three award-winning hospitals, seven specialty institutes, nine health and wellness centers, and 15 urgent care centers—the George Hoag Family Foundation, now led by the fourth generation of Hoags, has continued to champion and engage with our innovative programs and services.

Since our founding, support from families throughout our community has become a part of Hoag’s DNA, fostering a culture of giving at Hoag that spans from our neighbors and friends to physicians, nurses, and staff and permeates the compassionate care Hoag delivers every day.

Like your family, Hoag believes in the power of these multigenerational relationships and that there’s no limit to what we can accomplish together. With continued philanthropic support, Hoag is realizing the next step in our vision to become a destination for world-class care, catalyzing innovation to constantly improve the patient experience. Already the highest-ranked hospital in Orange County for six years running, we’re reaching even higher to bring individuals and families throughout Southern California a health care system of the future.

The philanthropic opportunities presented in the pages that follow represent this vision, our mission to serve the community, and our longstanding family values. As Hoag continues to push boundaries and lead the way forward, we invite you to be bold with us.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. We would be honored to partner with you in continuing to advance patient care at Hoag.

Hoag Benefactor Program

The Hoag Benefactor Program was established as a gesture of gratitude by the Hoag Hospital Foundation to honor and thank our most generous supporters. It’s also a way to ensure you and your family efficiently receive Hoag’s exceptional health care services. As a Benefactor member, you and your loved ones can have exclusive access to a team of compassionate and skilled liaisons, who are experienced nurses, that can facilitate your health care journey across Hoag’s many facilities. Available 24/7, they will assist you with scheduling, referral requests, and provide emergency department support at the Irvine and Newport Beach campuses. Offering this kind of peace of mind is our way of saying “thank you” for your generosity.

The Benefactor Program giving level of your choice will determine the number of people in your family—spouses, minor and adult children, and close relatives—to whom this service can be extended.

The health care system is complex and can be difficult for patients to navigate alone. With multiple providers, and often multiple health conditions, patients can feel uncertain about how and where to access the care they need. Hoag is committed to providing coordinated care for every patient through specialized nurse navigators. They provide support, guidance, and education to patients and their families, helping them access and chart a course through the health care system. Nurse navigators who are specialized in one area offer a focused approach to care and help individuals and families overcome logistical barriers while offering support and expertise. This way, patients can spend less time planning and more time healing. Hoag’s nurse navigators are completely funded by philanthropy.

Your gift would add nurse navigation support focused on cardiovascular patients in the Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute. A gift of $250,000 would add funding toward nurse navigation support. A gift of $500,000 would recruit one dedicated cardiovascular nurse navigator and fund that position for three years.

The following philanthropic opportunities are essential to Hoag’s continued enhancement. Your gift amount within these selections will enable you to be counted among our most generous supporters in the Benefactor Program.

Hoag Innovators is a group of donors with a shared vision for advancing health care innovation at Hoag by leveraging the power of collective giving. Defined by its active engagement, discretionary review, and collaborative decision-making, the group meets twice per year to hear pitches from dynamic Hoag physicians on the latest developments in research, technology, and patient care. Together, the group discusses and votes on which philanthropic investments will provide the greatest impact.

To date, Hoag Innovators has funded 13 projects positioned to reimagine and reinvent how care can be delivered more effectively, affordably, and efficiently. Among many others, these include Hoag at Home, a comprehensive home care service that provides patients with highquality, personalized care in the comfort of their home; Natural Killer cell therapy, an innovative immunotherapy currently used in clinical trials for the treatment of pancreatic cancer; and the VECTRA WB360 whole body 3D imaging system that uses 46 cameras and AI technology to map out moles and lesions for patients at a high risk of skin cancer.

The group’s commitment to innovation across the Hoag enterprise is helping Hoag emerge as a world-class destination where the future of health care is designed, launched, and implemented.

A gift of $250,000 to Hoag Innovators would secure your place as voting members in this exciting initiative, creating visionary change at Hoag for the benefit of both patients near and far. A gift of $500,000 would both secure your place as voting members and add $250,000 to the Hoag Innovators Endowment Fund.
