MGA NEWS YOU CAN USE… by Jeff Graham, MGA Board Communications Chair

BRIDGEMILL WINS 2020 MGA CHALLENGE CUP THANKS TEAM CAPTAIN JACK QUIGLEY! (Written by Team Captain Jack Quigley) It's official! The BridgeMill MGA wins the 5th Annual MGA Challenge Cup versus Lake Arrowhead and retains The Cup. This is the 4th victory out of the last 5 years and the first year we won at home due to some great golf on Sunday at BridgeMill! We flipped the 9's at home this year so we could set up to watch teams come into the 9th green and it made for some exciting viewing. After day 1 best ball and alternate shot at Lake Arrowhead, both MGA's were tied at 11 points heading into Sunday. The morning format on day 2 at BridgeMill was a scramble and the BridgeMill MGA came away with a 3 point lead (7 - 4) heading into the afternoon singles matches. We needed those 3 points too, because the Lake Arrowhead team managed to overcome that deficit and took the lead after securing 10 points to our 6 points in 16 of the first 22 singles matches. BridgeMill was down 1 with the last 3 anchor matches still come and the BridgeMill MGA team delivered! Graham/ Graves, Brown/Chattin and Fulton/ Lahmann took 5 of the last 6 available points to propel us to victory. Final Score: BridgeMill 29 – Lake Arrowhead 26! We had some all-star out performances on Sunday. Graham/Graves was the only team to grab all 3 Sunday points. Great job Chris and Jeff … Shake & Bake! We had a lot of guys like John B, Nick B, John Foster, Ricky Haynes, Darryl F, Quigley, McCulloch and Chris Chattin go low just when we needed it in the single matches. Other highlights include: Nick's birdie on 8 to take a one up lead going to the last and getting a point. Jeff G’s long putt from off the green on 9 to a few feet to secure his point. Chris G, down 3 after 4 holes and storming back to get the point. Todd M getting the last 2 holes to grab a 1/2 point.

This year's handicap requirement kept that matches closer than usual, so I think that was a positive change. A big thank you to Bob Nitishin for taking the day to help set the course up and keep the groups moving. Troy/Denise - as usual, thanks for all the help! I heard nothing but great things from the Lake Arrowhead team about how well the event was run and what a great finishing experience on hole 9 – something we will definitely do in the future. It was an awesome weekend! The new MGA season will start in January and earning MGA Player of the Year points is the way to play onto the team for 2021. Get out there and play!

MGA PAR THREE - LAST CHANCE FOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINTS

Mark your calendars on December 12, 2020 for the final event of the year – the MGA Par Three. Yes you heard that right… all 18 holes will be converted to par three’s. Candy Canes will mark the tee boxes and be prepared for some interesting shots. Sign up early as this event fills up fast and don’t forget to dress in your favorite holiday attire. Have you ever seen an elf swing a club? MGA Tournament Fee: $45 Guest Tournament Fee: $60 ***** Please bring a toy for Toys for Tots

JOIN THE MGA BOARD

Have you ever thought? I have a burning desire to promote and develop men’s golf, to promote fellowship and sportsmanship, to encourage active participation of all male members without regard to skill, to create and maintain a first class schedule of golf tournaments, and to generally create a superb golfing experience for all male members. If you did, we have an opportunity for you to be part of the BridgeMill MGA.

In January 2021, the MGA body will elect 6 new members for the Board of Directors (BoD) and BoD then elects its officers and committee chairs to serve its members.

Board Members remaining for 2021: Steve Arnold, Jeff Graham, Hank Hannon, Johnny Morris, Bob Nitishin, and Chris Sharp

BoD Members whose term is expiring in 2020: John Belicka, Chris Chattin, Berry Dabbs, Mike Moraweic, Jack Quigley, and Jeff Webster Maybe now you are thinking … I am not sure I would like to be on the board, but I would like to help out with some of the MGA events and activities.

Opportunity arises again as you can be part of one of the MGA committees with as little as an hour per month involvement. The committees are where the real work of the MGA gets done.

Tournament Committee: creates, schedules, plans, and executes all events

Communications Committee: provides news items for publication via newsletter, e-mail, and website Membership Committee: maintains roster of members in good standing and recruits new members Social: coordinates social events and planning event food & BEvERages

Philanthropy Committee: creates MGA fund raising events for charity To learn more about the MGA Board, Officers, Committees, and Operations, please read the BridgeMill MGA By-Laws posted on the www.bridgemillmga.com. Have a BridgeMill Athletic Club Account but NOT an MGA member? Please e-mail the MGA to inquire on how to join the MGA to play in tournaments. One of our MGA Membership Committee ambassadors will reach out to you. E-mail: bridgemillmga@gmail.com
